Guy’s men will travel take on the Cherries on Tuesday July 23 in a friendly and again competitively just 13 days later at the very same venue.

However, Whittingham insists that the friendly will remain.

“It won’t change, we will still be playing Bournemouth in pre-season,” Guy told The News.

“I suppose you could say it is the luck of the draw but I can’t see any reason why either team would scrap the friendly.

“That is part of both teams’ summer schedule and we are not going to change anything now.”

Pompey faced the Cherries in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy last season and emerged victorious following a tense penalty shoot-out.
