Pellegrini Charged
Friday, 21st Feb 2014 19:58

Manuel Pellegrini was charged on Friday over his attack on Swedish referee Jonas Eriksson just hours after delivering an apology for his outburst following City’s defeat to Barcelona. The apology hasn't spared him a disciplinary charge from the European governing body who announced the opening of proceedings against the manager on Friday evening.

The City manager was charged for “violation of the general principles of conduct”, having accused Eriksson of not being impartial during Barca’s 2-0 Champions League victory at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday. The Chilean will learn his fate on Friday 28th February.

Arsène Wenger received a three-match touchline ban and was fined £33,000 two years ago for criticising referee Damir Skomina following Arsenal’s exit from the Champions League to AC Milan.
And Jose Mourinho, then manager of Real Madrid, received a five-game touchline ban and was fined £42,000 for his behaviour and comments following a Champions League semi-final first leg defeat to Barcelona in 2011.
