If You Were Garry - Rotherham (Home)

So after two unchanged starting line ups it is time to think slightly differently for Garry Monk as we start our Capital One Cup campaign on Tuesday night with the visit of Rotherham and that should present the chance for some other players to stake a claim for a place in the starting line up.

It is pretty much traditional for teams at this stage in the competition to be fielding 'weakened' teams although given the options that we have available this time around I suspect we will have what appears to be a reasonably strong side in place and certainly one that you would fancy to get past Rotherham at this stage of the competition.

In goals I would almost certainly expect to see Gerhard Tremmel start ahead of Fabianski. Tremmel played a brilliant part in our run to win the competition two years ago and it is important to me to have our two goalkeepers with as much match practice as possible.

Defence wise I would expect to see Kyle Bartley in for certain and Dwight Tiendalli and possible Steven Kingsley in as well assuming that the latter is fit. That leaves one position alongside Bartley that I am assuming will be filled by Federico Fernandez giving a completely different look and feel to the defensive line up at the moment.

Then we turn to midfield. Jefferson Montero is almost certain to start and I suspect that Tom Carroll will make his Swansea debut after signing on a season long loan from Spurs last weekend. With Montero on the left that leaves a wide spot on the right which will be filled by Nathan Dyer although I don't expect him to get the full 90 minutes so Routs will be on the bench ready to step in possibly for the second 45 minutes. We don't have Leon Britton available for selection so there could be a start for Josh Sheehan and I just have this feeling that given our options than Ki could retain his place in the starting line up.

Given all that though there is the chance that somewhere into all of this Jazz Richards could fit - maybe if Kingsley isn't fit?

Up front if anyone other than Bafetimbi Gomis starts then I will be amazed and I am sure that Garry Monk will be hoping that he grabs a couple of goals in the first half as I don't believe that he would want him to play the whole 90 minutes if it could be avoided.

So there you have it that leaves a starting line up that could look like this
