Jed Wallace told how a desire to show their backing for manager Andy Awford was one of the inspirations for Saturday's 3-0 win over Morecambe.

Wallace's two second-half goals sealed the vital win after Craig Westcarr had opened the scoring in the first period.

He told The News: ‘It has been a low week, as everybody knows, but all you can do when things are going against you is stand up and be counted. And I think all the players out there, those that came on, the manager and staff have really done that.

‘Without being horrible or cringy, the boys all respect the manager. He has stuck by us and we have got to stick by him. On Saturday we showed how important he is to the group and he takes much credit for picking the right team. The manager took me off a park field so I am always going to give everything for him.

‘I don’t tend to read the papers and all that stuff, for me I just go out and do everything I can every week for the manager. He is experienced enough and been in football long enough to know it is a ruthless sport and things happen.

‘But we, as players, reacted Saturday and that is what’s important. We owed it to ourselves as a group, the manager included, Paul Hardyman, Kev the kitman, Barry Harris, everyone in the group.

‘The man has been at the club for probably 25 years on and off and the one thing people know is this absolutely means everything to him and that will never change for him. He would do anything for the club, as he has done. He has the desire there — as we have as a group — and we showed the passion he displays on the sidelines and got a good win.’

Next test for the Blues comes on Saturday, when they go to Tranmere.
