Monk Cautious Ahead Of Sunderland Test

Garry Monk is a man that we know prepares meticulously for every game that the Swans play so it was no real surprise that he was cautious at his press conference today ahead of the Swans trip to Sunderland at the weekend.

We head into the North East to take on a team that could not have had a worse start to the season. Seven goals conceded, no points and a mass exodus less than an hour into their home game last week probably only tells half a story for a side that has been widely turned on by the media and even their own players for the way they have started the season,.

Manager Dick Advocaat has been instilled as the clear favourite to be the first Premier League manager to lose his job this season and with all of that put together you get a pretty good picture as to why things are looking so bleak at Sunderland right now.

The Swans of course have been the opposite with a brilliant pre-season that saw them come through unbeaten on the back of some good signings and four points from two games including two goals and a point in our only away trip so far at the home of the Champions two weeks ago.

So you could almost be forgiven if you thought that the Swans almost only had to turn up to win on Saturday but that is not in the mind of Garry Monk at all who will prepare his side with the same detail as if they were heading to the Ethiad or somewhere similar.

"We expect Sunderland to be organised and have more determination" said Monk.

"They are in front of their own fans so we are expecting a difficult game - they have good players and a good manager who knows what he wants.

"I'm expecting a reaction from hem and it makes it increasingly harder for us. But we are in good form, we are working in a good way and we're looking forward to the game.

"I'm confident in the players we have in the squad and we are stronger now and the levels of training have stepped up.

"It's very early in the season but I'm confident with this group moving forward."
