Jay Rodriguez Facing Groin Operation.
Thursday, 22nd Sep 2016 11:18

There has been a lot of mystery in the past week concerning Jay Rodriguez fitness with the player playing no part in the wins over Swansea and Crystal Palace, but the rumour is he has a groin problem

It was good to see Jay Rodriguez score against Sunderland a few weeks back, but those who thought it would be the start of a return to form and fitness were given a false dawn, although he started the following match against Arsenal he was withdrawn at half time with no apparent reason given

His late cameo against Sparta Prague saw another goal scored but seemingly even that 13 minutes was too much for him and he was not even on the bench for Sunday's game against Swansea nor last night against Crystal Palace.

Claude Puel had eluded to the fact that there was an injury issue, however he gave no clue as to what it was or how long it would keep him out or whether this was a new problem or a recurrence of one of his old injuries that has seen him miss much of the past 2 1/2 years.

Now a tweet from Adam Blackmore of BBC Radio Solent has suggested that hopefully it is not too serious.

"Am told by non-club source Jay Rodriguez in Germany having possible groin/hernia op - couple of weeks they think but not gospel"

As the commentator on all things SFC on Radio Solent Blackmore is normally better informed than most journalists on what is happening at the club, so hopefully his source may be well connected.

Certainly Saints fans would hope so and would also hope that the club should keep supporters a little more up to date on injury issues if for nothing else other than stopping harmful rumours.

Such a pity for Jay and us, but cannot fathom the logic in NOT buying another forward last month.
As well as the league, we're in 2 cup competions in the coming weeks.
Anyone seen our forwards from the under 21/ academy teams?

BarnetSaint - Olomola looks very handy.

Anyone know how many consecutive games (including sub appearances) Jay has managed since his ACL injury? Can't be many.

I was just about to say that , OLUFELA OLOMOLA does look very good and is getting a good run of form but is still too far away from first Xi
Gallagher is playing well in a poor team {Blackburn} and has a couple of goals. He is on loan for the season and this is probably the best thing for him, game time is so important to develop young talent.
hopefully Boufal isn't too far off playing.

Playing a Premier League football match a couple of weeks after having a groin/hernia operation would be madness. A couple of months would be more realistic.

Sad news
I agree with Barnet and all the others - it was madness not to get a goalscorer in - a lot of pressure on Charlie to stay fit now...

Poor Jay, just can't catch a break. If last night was anything to go by Jake Hesketh should be getting a lot more play time, tremendous performance with some great passes to open up their defence. If he was a Manc player he would be all over the BBC and other media.

Yes it was great to see the lesser spotted through ball in these parts again

Wonder about the repairing of Jay's knee, Also to be hit on the foot and now in the groin wonder if it is all on that same side. `Standing with Jay Rod !! May have to do a bit more strengthening in those areas get well soon :)
