Nathan Redmond Signs New Contract
Thursday, 8th Aug 2019 11:13

Saints fans will be delighted to hear that Nathan Redmond has shown his faith in the direction the club are going by putting pen to paper on a new contract at St Mary's

A year ago there weren't many Saints fans who would have put much money on Nathan Redmond having the season he was just about to have, one that saw him win numerous player of the year awards, and finally show the form that some Saints fans had faith in him being able to do and in doing so pushing himself back into the England reckoning.

Now he has shown his commitment to the cause by signing a new 4 year contract with the club.

Speaking on the clubs website Redmond said.

“I’m really happy to have signed, and I'm just wanting to get the season up and going now.

“We've got a great group of players here, who I've been with for the last three years. I see them every single day and it's a pleasure to go out there and perform with them at the weekend and train hard with them every single week. I feel like we can hopefully build something special and to be a part of it for the next four years is good for me.”

Ralph Hasenhüttl said:

“It is very good news for the club. He's a player who showed in the last season that he is very important for Southampton and I think it's a massive signal for the club, and for us all, that he wants to follow our way. It's a very positive day for us.”

Hopefully this is a sign that the squad itself are committed to Ralph Hasenhuttl and what he is trying to achieve and that after a couple of seasons of turmoil we are now back on the right track.

Quite possibly our best signing of the summer.

Redmond has given so much to this club in far from ideal conditions - he has blocked out the haters and become a key player under Ralph. Time to give him a bit of love and make him a fan favourite. Big season for him :)

Great but what about the new central defender? Strikes me this news is released today to try and placate the fans. No sign of any new faces arriving just talk about those leaving.

Good news, he's turned into one of those players who you dread losing to an injury or suspension. Vital part of the team. As for the central defender issue, I'm hoping that a real surprise is going to await us this afternoon but, if not, then please no more money squandered on a player no better than we have at present. We've recently done that too often to repeat the madness.

This is really good news. And fair play to him for turning opinions around. There are a number of the support who are too quick to judge. I think the only time that is justified is when a player shows a lack of effort or bad attitude. When Nathan joined us it took him a little while to find his feet. You can see the effort he was applying though and he never shied from wanting the ball.

4 year extension for 6 goals and 4 assists? Are we carrying on as before with our profligate deals.

Yes great news; Redmond extending his time with the Saints but my heart sank when I heard it because the timing surely means that there will be no CB signing...Again!
if we score 3 goals per game but let in 4 ............
