Interview with a Wycombe fan
Interview with a Wycombe fan

We interview Wycombe Wanderers supporter 'Preston Exile' for the second time this season ahead of Saturday's game.

1) Afternoon Preston Exile, it’s good to hear from you again. How’s it going at Adams Park since our teams last met?

Jekyll and Hyde. We’ve won the six pointers with two fantastic 1-0 home wins against Chesterfield and Rotherham but lost at home to Dagenham & Redbridge and Mansfield.

2) Your official site is billing the play off clash between us as the biggest football match of the weekend. Do the Wycombe fans agree?

Not entirely. They’re all big games now for the rest of the season.

3) Are Wycombe fans optimistic with regards to returning the favour with Dale taking the three points at Adams Park?

Fairly. It has been five wins and two draws on our travels since our 6-0 reverse at Stockport in December. But saying that Rochdale were a good side at Adams Park.

4) Are their any particular Rochdale players that Wycombe fans aren’t looking forward to seeing again?

No-one in particular stood out but the whole Rochdale team made things tough.

5) One look at Soccerbase since the match between us would say that Wycombe’s front two have been a bit hit and miss… With Scott McGleish hitting the net on a regular basis and Leon Knight only scoring once. Would that be a true reflection on the two?

Not really given that Knight has only started two games for Wycombe and won a penalty in the first. But yes McGleish has had a fantastic season and fully deserving of his recent run.

6) Midfielder Sergio Torres seems to be receiving a bit of attention from the media at the moment, is his form a reason why?

It’s the whole package. Sergio is such a down to earth character, stopping for chats and drinks with fans after the games. He has such a great rapport with the fans and is such a great human being more than anything else. His recent performances have certainly helped Wycombe.

7) Looking back before the 1-0 win, loanee Frank Fielding was all over the news and seemed to be highly rated by all at Wycombe. How has he progressed since extending his loan with Wycombe?

I’m not sure he’s really had too many saves in his second loan spell. He has also been beaten three times from the penalty spot so work to be done (he saved two penalties in his first loan spell!).

8)  Wycombe only managed a draw at Gigg Lane… Did the team not turn up and leave the fans to play against bury? Or was Brian Barry-Murphy’s goal just a sheer fluke?

Wycombe were magnificent at Bury and should have won at a canter. I cannot fathom how we didn’t get four or five. Bury scored from both their two chances in that game, both from set pieces.

9)  A prediction for Saturday’s game?

I’d like to think Wycombe can nick it – 2-1 – although it’ll be a very difficult match.

10)  Who’s going up and who’s going down this season then?

Darlington, Peterborough and Wycombe to pip MK Dons. Rochdale or Brentford via the play offs.

Thanks once again and good luck for the rest of the season (after Saturday’s game of course!)
