1st time visiting Bath
at 20:34 29 May 2024

I live in Bath too. A lot of the most popular places to go have already been covered in previous replies and the good thing is it's a small city so I'd recommend you just talk a walk around the city centre and you'll see a lot of the sights, like:

Roman Baths
The Abbey
The weir near Pulteney Bridge
Pulteney Bridge (one of only 4 bridges in the world with shops on it I believe)
Great Pulteney Street
The Circus
The Royal Crescent and Victoria Park

There are loads of places to eat and drink so just depends on what you fancy. It does get busy with visitors especially in the summer so it is best to book restaurants.

Never been to Edesia because I think it is fairly new.
Sotto Sotto is one of the best Italian's I've been to, so should be good if you can get in.
Scallop Shell is good for fish and seafood.
The Mint Room is an excellent Indian but is a few minutes away from the centre.
Noya's Kitchen for Vietnamese

Most pubs and bars in the centre are fine but again can get very busy at the weekends. If you want to visit two of the smallest pubs in the country, go to Coeur De Lion and The Old Green Tree.

Scottish Leagues

Why does the Scottish Premiership split in two?

Fixture balance is seen as the main reason behind the Scottish Premiership split.

With 12 teams in the competition, every club initially faces each other three times, meaning 33 league games are played by each side prior to the split.

If the league didn't split in two at that point, the season would need to consist of 44 matches to ensure balance - six more games than the current system.

Those extra matches would cause significant fixture congestion with the current split allowing for a league break over the Easter period.

In addition to logistics, the split also ensures teams face opponents closer to them on the table at a key point in the season.

Rather than first-place wrapping up the title with a win against the team coming last, they must continue to pick up points against the five sides closest to them on the ladder.

Conversely, the split gives the bottom sides a more even chance of avoiding relegation and creates more last-minute drama.

How does the Scottish Premiership split work?

The Scottish Premiership split sees the competition split in two - divided into a top and bottom six.

Those teams then face off against the other five clubs in their section once to conclude the season.

While clubs can alter their standings in a specific section, a team from the bottom six cannot jump above a side in the top six once the split occurs.

Hibernian, for example, finished seventh before the split, and could finish the season with more points than teams in the top six, but that won't be reflected in the final standings.

When was the split introduced in Scotland?

The split was introduced in 2000 when the Scottish Premiership, then known as the Scottish Premier League, was expanded from 10 clubs to 12.

Prior to expansion, each side played each other four times across a season that lasted 36 matches.

The addition of two clubs, however, saw the competition introduce a split to avoid the need for a further eight league games each season.

Instead, seasons consist of a more manageable 38 matches - the same number as the Premier League.

Anyone here into Gothic or Symphonic Metal?

Dogma recently released their debut album. Possibly jumping on the bandwagon following Ghost's success. An all girl band dressed as nuns with catchy hooks, cheesy lyrics filled with innuendo and NSFW music videos

To answer the hypothetical question, I reckon they would have stayed up if Eustace or Mowbary had remained in charge.

But they have the same home kit as Chelsea so deserve what they got for that reason alone!

Amazing goal. Really like him.

Is his contract up at the end of the season? If so, deserves a new one for the way he's been playing at right back recently, and hope he gets one.

In about 1986 saw QPR lose at home to Liverpool (no surprises there) and that evening was in the second row at Hammersmith Odeon for Iron Maiden.

Personal opinion of course but I would say Muse are similar in terms of musicianship/class and vocal style to Queen.

Dream Theater are excellent musicians and song writers but are generally heavier than Queen, Meat Loaf and Dire Straits; more progressive metal. Sound like Metallica on some songs, like Pink Floyd on others.

Both Muse and Dream Theater have been around for many years though, so hardly the "next band"! Just thinking of bands that are still around.

Also planning on going later this year and most likely using Air BnB so any other recommendations on places to stay appreciated. Thanks!

Great to have all the suggestions so far on what to do and where to eat. Really helpful

Who is your Non-League side?

Perhaps no surprise but Bath City for me. Live within walking distance but only usually go once or twice per season.

Doing a bit better this season than recent years but doubt they will get promoted to the NL. Always seem to go out of the F.A. Cup in the final qualifying round before the first round proper too.

Charlie Austin's goal away at Southampton in the Premier League season when he had his back to goal, flicked the cross up with one foot and volleyed it in. Is there any footage of that?

Helsinki Holiday Advice
at 17:55 21 Aug 2023

Went there for 3 nights last summer and thought it was a great city to visit. We picked up a walking tour map from tourist information and followed a route round the city centre, cathedral and harbour front. Took a short boat ride out to the island of Suomenlina which is an old fortress island. If I remember correctly the boat ticket is included in with day tickets for the trams.

Loads of bars and restaurants. We had a great lunch at Allas restaurant and the top of it is an open air bar overlooking the harbour:

There's also loads of street food stalls along the harbour front (called Kauppatori) if you fancy grabbing something quick and easy.

Everyone speaks English and you might even see Niko Hämäläinen!!
