There is a good video on u tube that explains how safe standing works in Germany. Seeing this video it might work in the South Stand It would be good to know what Robbie thinks.

Check out The Mighty U's the fanzine on Flipboard for smart phones and tablet http://flip.it/2XVl3 t

Safe standing

I moved to Colchester about 10 years ago and started going to Layer Rd and loved the Bar Side. After about year I had jumped ship from Manchester United (the land of prawn sandwiches) where I was a Stretford Ender in the 1970s to become a fully fledged fan of my local team. I now sit (sometimes stand!) towards the back of the South Stand attending the vast majority of home matches.

You can read my mag The Mighty U's on the Flip Board app at http://flip.it/7Q8xe

A very close connection with The Mighty U's.

Yes you are right it's going to be difficult but football moved to all seaters very quickly after the misconceived response to Hillsborough in a way we did not think possible at the time. A few key points from the safe standing campaign:

1. The Football League vote is to allow safe standing to be tried it doesn't mean every club has to do it. Some clubs are raring to go so Robbie should be supportive of clubs trying to get permission.

2. The safe standing proposal is based on the German model where seating areas are switched back and forth between seating and standing with far more use of crash barriers than the old days. We're not talking about a return to the bar side terracing. Check out the pictures on the web link I posted and the articles in The Mighty U's. I am not an expert but it might not be as impossible as we think.

3. The idea is far from bonkers one of the articles I've posted in The Mighty U's putting the case is from Alistair Cambell Blair's old spin doctor!

Standing would be great and a return to real fotball let's give the campaign our full backing.

There's an excellent article in today's Indpendent (it's in The Mighty U's http://flip.it/7Q8xe saying the next Football League meeting is having a vote on safe standing. This is a cause which really deserves support. Check out their website here http://www.safestandingroadshow.co.uk/home Does anyone know what Robbie Cowling's position is? If there's any doubt he's in favour I think he should know how many fans want to see their footie standing up. If it works in Germany and great clubs like AFC Wimbledon are backing it - why not here in Colchester?

Player Contracts 2013

I saw a tweet from Izzet to Garcia saying he had another year on his contract a few weeks ago. Maybe a minor coaching role soon?

Sure - will do in the new season. I certainly will not be doing match coverage though. Noah's are excellent so I think he's got that role sewn up.

I'd usually think of spam as a false site seeking to promote advertising not originating from a real fan. Not the case here I can assure you.

I would also take a dim view of sites based on automatice feeds. In my case all the posts are articles from the web that I have look at myself.

If you search for football on Flipboard you'll find she'd loads of mags created by fans.

What the mag is doing is what it says in the article and in the new season I'll be putting my own blogs into it. Don't see The Mighty U's in competition with the relatively small number of Colchester blogs and message boards. I googled West Ham in advance of the friendly and they have shed loads. My view is that is a good thing and must help engage more fans a thing we desparately need in Colchester.

I suppose the test is do you find the mag a good read. Feedback on other message boards suggest at least some definitely do. Check it out and decide for yourself.

The Waiting is Over

Sorry to disappoint but I am afraid this is not a post to announce that Jabo's signed for next season. The close season hell of waiting to see which of our better players get picked off by richer clubs whilst hoping that Joe Dunne can come up with some inspired last minute signings has only just got underway. Let's hope others don't see in Jabo what we have grown to love this season.

The purpose of this posting is to tell you the waiting for the new Colchester United fanzine The Mighty U's is over. At the time of the launch a number of you asked is it available on Android as well as Apple devices and the answer is IT IS NOW!

So for those that haven't joined the small but steadily growing band of regular readers what's it all about? As the name suggests it's a magazine for people obsessed with Colcheter United. Imagine the back pages of the national newspapers but but instead of page after page about the corporate brands such as Manchester United and Chelsea it is dominated by our own Mighty U's!

The fanzine is accessed via the Flipboard app which works on all Apple and Android tablets and phones. It allows you to produce a pretty good looking magazine drawing from all the material which is out there on the web. The Mighty U's draws in all the best U's news, blogs and tweets. In the new season I plan to add my own blogs and I would be interested to hear from others who might want to contribute. Away coverage anybody?

The Mighty U's does not stop at Colchester United - although the U's dominate - it also contains some of the more interesting football coverage from the Web. Rest assured though the coverage of the Premiership is minimal. Fergie's retirement was only covered by a few tweets from the Col U players. What you are more likely to come across is stuff about fan involvement, safe standing, the economics of football and driving bigotry out of the game (yes you Di Canio!).

Have I wetted your appetite? If I have you can either down load the Flipboard app and search for The Mighty U's or it is probably easiest to click here and follow the instructions. Check out The Mighty U's http://flip.it/CjK4g

If you like what you see please use the share button on the front page which will allow you to send it to your mates. I would also be interested to hear

I hope you enjoy it!
