Terrible news. Seems only yesterday that he was a bright young thing making his way in the game.

Sad news indeed. Anyone of a certain age will have good memories of him at not a great period of our history. 200 games for us is a big achievement and 54 is no age.
RIP Iain.

His Father taught me English Lit at Montgomery, he was a goalkeeper as well for Huddersfield Town.

RIP Iain.

No man is rich enough to buy back his past.

OMG - he did the half time draw a couple of weeks ago and was having laugh on the pitch with Tony Parr.

One of my early hero's. Got his gloves when I was a kid from Squires Gate training ground.

I know it's never nice to discuss this - but anyone know what he died from?

Not the best keeper we've ever had, but certainly not the worst either. Sad news.

Icon? It's all Rio Ferdinand's fault.

I won't. Don't you give up your obsession with me either.

Sad news & RIP. A minor claim to tv fame is that in the early 90's I was sat as a guest in the Grandstand studio by one of the monitors you used to see in the background . It had a videprinter running and when it came up that Hesford had scored for Maidstone I pointed out to a researcher that he was the goalkeeper which he hadn't picked up . . A hand written note was swiftly passed to Steve Rider who promptly informed the viewing public ,(there weren't many - I think it was the first time ITV had got hold of the rugby )

Am presuming a minutes applause/silence at the game today - my first real Blackpool hero - just had a look of a footballer about him in those days. Bit of swagger and that 70's look.

The players wore black armbands. To be honest, we would have a lot of minute's silences if they did it for all ex-players so unless it is a Matthews, Finney etc - some huge historical figure for that club, then maybe the armbands are a good compromise.

Read a lot of good articles on Iain over the last day or so, many mentioning his brothers and father's sporting achievements. However, there is no mention of the one thing I've always been intrigued about. If all his family were from the North-West, how come he was born in Zambia?
