Switzerland are probably the best 'manipulators', if you like, of the system. They have been known in the past to hire mathematicians in order to tell them the best opponents to play in friendlies etc and it's worked a treat for them
The work for Wales now is to stay in that position, as to go any further they'd need to beat teams ranked 21st and above, while avoiding dropping points to those below. A win against 3rd ranked Belgium will do nicely.. [Post edited 9 Apr 2015 11:24]

You're quite right, FIFA rankings are a farce...but doesn't this farce have a bearing on seeding in the Euro 2016 tournament, rather than ending up first or second positions in the qualifying groups? |  | | |

There are usually some complicated super secret maths equations involved in determining seeding but I thought qualifying group placement was determined by how well you placed in your previous set of qualifying games.
I may be 100% wrong of course as I've paid virtually no attention to International fooball qualifiers until we started winning games. | | | |

It's unbelievable to think we could be in pot 1 when we were in pot 6 last time around.
Even if we were to stay in pot 2 we could be looking at a group of Romania, Wales, Northern Ireland, Armenia, Faroe Islands, San Marino and who wouldn't fancy us to get out of that?
