40 points may be cutting it fine this season.
In previous years when 37/38 was enough, the "top clubs" pretty much collected the points against the bottom teams. That isn't happening this year. |  |

Sunderland and Newcastle are big clubs, Sunderland have apparently spent millions on an attacking midfielder and a centre half, Newcastle have apparently spent millions on the likes of Shelvey and Townsend and got what some say is the best player in the Russian league in on loan.
So you can see why some people take the position that they both can close to gap and get out of the relegation zone.
Swans position in the league will be Swans position in the league after our next two matches which are away to Arsenal and Spurs [we would have played the same amount of home and away games at that point], I will take 1 point out of a possible 6 out of those 2 fixtures. |

we need 13 points from 11 games for 40 points which means nothing.
To stay up we need to get 3 points less than Norwich or Newcastle, 4 points less than Sunderland and 11 points less than Villa in the remaining 11 games (12 for Newcastle).
That could be 13 points, could be 11 points, could be 5 points and could be 18 points.
At this stage of the season 40 points is an irrelevance.
Same with the 'Dav's stats' nonsense, which starts off with 'points to safety'. Who says it's safety? No one. There is no magic cut off that says if you get 40 points you stay up. It's not a bad benchmark at the start of the season, that's all. [Post edited 28 Feb 2016 20:03]
