Swans Training Camps 22:19 - Jan 26 with 1228 viewsaberavon_wizard

My grandson has enjoyed these on a number of occasions and are good value. The price last year was £10 per day and now increased to £15! I will still use but is this the best way to encourage local talent?

That's one hell of an increase on subs, that's not exactly helping especially when things are a bit tight for families these days, poor showing imo

These camps are not based on encouraging local talent, they're a money-maker. Nothing more, nothing less.

Not unlike the, seemingly, hundreds of "development centres" that have sprung up in recent years....which kids/parents have to pay to attend!

If you can't afford five quid you shouldn't be leaving the fcking house.

Maybe costs have risen? More coaches, paid better than minimum wage perhaps? Hall costs etc?

LINDEN JONES is head on these courses, FITC
Football in the community.
They have to find sponsorship to fund this.
The Swans put very little money in to this, so they are constantly looking for sponsorship.
Mind you Joe Allen was found through Linden Jones

Indeed. But they do forge a link with the local community and they pick up the occasional kid for a try in the 'real' academy. But absolutely, these are just drop in sessions to make a bit of cash. Although i can't see how they do make money - I used to take my lad on a Saturday morning to Cymdu and there were sometimes almost as many coaches on as kids. The discipline and quality of the coaching is top notch though when you compare it to what you see going on in local clubs (not that they are bad, but the Swans is a cut above).

Where are they holding them now? Landore?

Not when a certain ex-director was allegedly overcharging the club to rent the Cwmdu facility .

Not sure how it works now. It's an argument, but what's free these days?

If you make it free, it would become unsustainable very, very quickly.

Just saying like that a 50% hike in cost per child(if you have more than 1) per day is a lot, not everyone is minted.

But people are being priced out of going to sporting fixtures.......but in football there is greed .....players, managers and their agents should folk out for the kids.....afterall if these kids show any potential they'll be a cash cow for them.
