Both United and Chelsea have sent scouts to watch Matheson in action and have made enquiries as they look to continue their polices of signing the best young talents in the country.

Rochdale are reluctant to lose Matheson but may find it hard to turn down the money on offer from a Premier League club.

Trouble is premier clubs can take young talent and only pay "training fees" and a set figure when so many appearances have been made, I think i saw somewhere its something daft like £1,000,000 when 100 appearances have been made
