Some poster's appear to be ruuning away from these facts. ie Derby games Football league games (ie same division in the same season) 23,018 Soton v Pompey 23,662 : Pompey v Soton A difference of 644 in games over a 100 years period, where both clubs have had larger and smaller stadiums. These games aren't impacted by position in league, or quality of team, or annoyance with owner, but clearly show Portsmouth with more fans, and crucially Soton never played Pompey when they were easily one of the best teams in the country over a 4 decade period.

Love the way you use your 1984 defeat to Saints to score attendance positivity points. Yes there were over 36k there that day, but the reality is that your home league average that season was just 13,196, proving that your fickle fans were only there to see Southampton !! Genuinely, where were the other 23k all season ?
