l think you will find that the reason the death toll is so high now, is simply because one of the new directives for issuing a death certificate states that " Covid 19 can be put on the death certificate on clinical balance of probabilities, without testing".
So somewhat open to interpretation or manipulation , so not really accurate.

I'm really not sure where you and TCM get off on all this.

The country is coming together, people (including the govt) are recognising that things have not gone swimmingly but they are still trying to support the govt and the scientists, all of whom are doing their best. The fact that they know they are on the back foot is making them up their game, which can only be good.

You two meanwhile seem intent on always still stirring up some kind divide about this, painting all critics are lefties, moaners, pandemic-lovers and feigning disgust.

What it with you - were you bullied by socialists as children or something?

Grow up, the pair of you.

Ever thought it might be because that's how you come across? It isnt just me and OS either, plenty of people on here think you two are the Owen Jones of mongboards.

I'm not really interested in how I 'come across'. I post what I think - there is no obligation to agree with me.

You two, however, spend half your time criticising others for being too lefty or, in your case, too 'PC'.

To be fair to him, at least Ignatius is happy to set out his ridiculously extreme opinions - he has no shame in that respect.

You are a lot more mealy-mouthed. Unless you are moaning about some example of diversity, you rarely set out any opinion of your own. You just sit there in the guise of 'most reasonable and balanced chief censor' running people around in circles with stupid questions and ad hominem attacks.

Were you bullied by socialists as a child?

incorrect, Huelin asked me yesterday my view on Brexit, which i happily gave him, no problem at all and he agreed with me.

You and Soggy spend your whole time ranting against the government then when you're view is challenged get all upset about it. I raised a very valid question yesterday that as Germany have been the European leaders in CV-19 response maybe their part privatised healthcare system is the way forward, rather than responding to the point you said you didn't want to engage any more on this topic, i guess the answer was uncomfortable given you'd put yourself in a corner demanding we be more like Germany but not wanting to do what they've done to get there.

Yes, I think I remember - you said you were neither pro- nor anti- Brexit, but rather an independent supporter of democracy. As I said, absolutely no opinion on the great issue of the day but plenty of criticism around all those anti-democratic Brexit blockers.

The German stuff is another great example. You say that you don't believe in health service privatisation but build a whole spurious case against other posters based upon the idea. I dealt with your points, I stopped when you started your usual games. As I said yesterday, if you want to make a case for health service privatisation make it, or even if you want to make the case that Germany's great covid response is down to their system being partly private, then make it. You can't. You are an expert only in sophistry...with some kind of weird anti-PC hang up.

I've got your number.

I totally agree Ian, let's hope our friends neighbour's and loved ones come through this horrendous situation unscathed, and let's hope the jobs and infrastructure we all depend on are still there for us, then we can come together as a country and learn from every aspect of these past few months.

I'd prefer to see positivity and gratitude be the greatest lesson to be learnt from this tragic event...not blame and retribution.

Questions should and will be answered, but being consumed with rage and negativity have no valid role moving forward

I'm on a non political view point, I don't for a second think or believe that everything that could of been done was!!
But i certainly don't imagine that outcome would of been different had a socialist government or liberal one for instance would of faired better, Italy and Spain had draconian measures and suffered terribly....london is the worst by far when you calculate per sq mile...and that only is because of it's vast population and make up of its citizens.

Just accept that there is no validity to your ridiculous notion that wealth or elitism is somehow to blame, I'm balanced and fully aware of how we have suffered so greatly...

London and New York have been hit the hardest due to their very unique populations and the constant flow of people from around the world...with diversity comes unique problems in circumstances such as this...

So no screaming or shouting here, just a realisation of cause and effect.

And since the outset I have always felt that victims of this virus would well exceed 40.000 in this country...and that's because I'm a realist and understand the factors at play.

Every single last death is saddening, not a pawn for political gain.
So if you want to know.".what I'm on ..its grounded reality

Indeed. Also it was a gift from Turkey so apart from some fuel for the plane, no cash was lost.

Agreed. My wife works in a GP surgery and all care home deaths are currently being put down to COVID19. They have a number of care homes on their patch and the number of deaths they come into on a normal Monday morning is always into double figures. The care home deaths since the virus hit need to be compared against the average normal weekly deaths.

Good point, Boris. I hope the generosity other nations have shown us in our hour of need is not forgotten. In the case of Turkey with the PPE they gave us, they have failed because it didn't meet our standards but in the case of Germany, with the high-quality respirators they gave us, they have succeeded and helped save many lives in this country.

That's how it was announced when it come in but regardless... they inspected it and decided it wasn't good enough for our health workers. Would you rather they made the nurses and doctors use it anyway?

You sound rather pleased with yourself, the thing is it's years of forced austerity, cut backs on NHS and social care funding that has caused us to be ill prepared for this event. You mention London and NYC but what about Berlin or Seoul population 9 million 256 deaths in the whole of the country of 58 million they say we shouldn't compare but you have say they would say that

South Korea has an educated young healthy population that is very compliant to government instruction..the wearing of masks in common place throughout the year and they are indeed to be applauded for their response to this virus.

The Germans have as ever been very efficient and their citizens are very compliant to federal instructions...they have recorded only deaths directly as a result of the virus..and not just with.

The uk is full of know it all (using the power of hindsight) agitators that really serve no purpose other than to cause division and misery.

Its truly amazing that everyone that has died in the past few weeks have all died of covid-19 and our natural and premature death rate has decided to take a break whilst this virus is in effect.

The two examples you use are indeed worthy of mention and are to be applauded for their actions.

We should of banned all travel into and out of the country in late February and not repatriated anyone until the pandemic was over.

We should of had billions of pounds worth of ppe in storage.

We should of fitted every single person with tracking and tracing apps.

We should of ignored the imperial college and Cambridge university advice.

And if we had done any of the above people would be moaning about the removal of freedoms and big brother is using this to strip our freedoms.

Why cant people return home from China, Pakistan, Italy, spain...its disgusting behaviour from this draconian government

Why do we have billions of pounds worth of ppe when our European neighbour's have none...we should be ashamed stock piling so much and denying Italy and Spain essential supplies

Either way you would still need something to politicise and just find another angle to promote your distaste of the sitting government..
