Would they? I think you will find the majority on furlough were low paid hospitality workers aircraft crew. High earners were able to work from home of course. | |

I see the French are now threatening to cut off the power they supply to the UK. Historically they supply around 5% of the UK's electricity,though with one of the interconnects currently out of service, is currently around 2 to 2.5%.
Fortunately the new interconnect with Norway is now on stream supplying about 2.5%. Let the French carry out their threat the UK will just have to increase the % produced by gas and coal which will only be temporary measure as more off shore windfarms are commissioned.
The UK could also reduce the electricity it supplies to the ROI via the Wales to ROI interconnect. Might make the IRISH put pressure on their French EU allies. | |

It remains to be seen if the trawler was being illegally held, the skipper was in Court today and there’s going to be a trial next year. Reading between the lines it looks like the trawler wasn’t on the register of boats entitled to fish the area, but it seems more a case of an admin error by either us or the French as opposed to illegal fishing or “poaching” | | | |
