Happy League 2022/23 Week 24 (of 38) - Deadline Saturday 7th January 15.00 21:58 - Jan 1 with 1781 viewsmfb_cufc

Week 23 results

COVENTRY CITY 1 BRISTOL CITY 1

Only one win in their last 10 games for Bristol City after this latest draw. 3 got this spot-on, and nobody had the outcome. 19 predicted a win for Coventry.

MILLWALL 3 ROTHERHAM UNITED 0
Millwall ended their sequence of three consecutive home draws with a victory that moved them up to fourth in the Championship. Everyone predicted a win for Millwall, but only Lewis_1 did well to have it spot-on. 13 predicted Millwall to win 2-0 in what was the weeks most predicted score.

OXFORD UNITED 0 EXETER CITY 1
Sam Nombe's late goal earned Exeter victory to give them a second successive away win. Well done to unitedwhites for being the only one to get this spot-on, and only oxfcolu and durham_exile had the outcome. 16 predicted a win for Oxford.

PETERBOROUGH UNITED 0 WYCOMBE WANDERERS 3
Wycombe began the new year with a bang as they demolished Peterborough in a meeting between two League One play-off contenders. Nobody had this spot-on, and only noah4x4 and gerry_us got the outcome. 19 predicted a win for Peterborough.

CREWE ALEXANDRA 1 TRANMERE ROVERS 0
Charlie Colkett's stunning strike got Crewe back on track to end a run of three defeats for the Railwaymen. Only GOSBTS and Tropical_Us got this spot-on, and only unitedwhites and Moor_Pinot had the outcome. 15 predicted a win for Tranmere.

DONCASTER ROVERS 2 CARLISLE UNITED 1
Doncaster claimed a second home victory in three days, as they denied Carlisle a perfect festive run, to move a point off League Two's top seven. 3 had this spot-on, and a anoher 4 got the outcome.

A new year, but like the old one, predicting football matches continued to be difficult. Considering there was a number of surprise results, only one game failed to have a 3 pointer, but the other five could only achieve 10 in total. It was left to the Millwall outcomes to give a boost to the week, and at the same time, saved nine members from firing blanks. On such a difficult week three members did extremely well to get two 3 pointers, with the top performace coming from unitedwhites, who had the Doncaster 2-1 to go with his good Exeter 1-0 prediction, and two outcomes, to give him an excellent 8 points. A very decent 7 points for Tropical_Us who got the Coventry 1-1 and the Crewe 1-0, and one outcome. Finally Lewis_1, who had the Doncaster 2-1 to go with his good Millwall 3-0 prediction, to give him a decent 6 points. Best of those to get one 3 pointer was Moor_Pinot, who got the Coventry 1-1 and two outcomes to give him a solid 5 points.

Happy Cup Just a reminder for those who have yet to post their predictions for the Quarter-finals. The games take place next weekend, with the deadline Saturday 7th January 15.00.

Midweek League Cup The qualifiers for the knockout stage have been decided. Details can be found at the bottom of the Week 10 thread. The Quarter-finals for this competition take place on Tuesday 14th February. All details will be at the beginning of February.

U'sual Champions League After today's results we finally know who this seasons 12 qualifiers are. The current holder RSCOSWORTH qualifies automatically. The other 11 are the top points scorers over the two divisions. They are GOSBTS, mfb_cufc, Moor_Pinot, MrHappy2, noah4x4, Madeira163, Lewis_1, unitedwhites, oxfcolu, thrillseeker and blueeagle. For the most part it looked like this seasons competition was going to be dominated by members from Division One, but the Premier fought back, and we ended with six from each. The competition starts on the 14th February, and will be administrated as usual by wessex_exile.

In the Premier By having the Doncaster 2-1 spot-on, mfb_cufc extended his lead from noah4x4 to 3 points. Occasionally something sensational happens in the Happy League. Usually when somebody gets a record points total in some way. So a member getting 8 points wouldn't normally come near to that recognition. What made those points sensational for unitedwhites was not so much he moved up five places, as he took advantage of the five above him getting one outcome each, but because his highest position all season had only been seventh, and the chances of making the U'sual Champions League had looked remote. But on such a low scoring week those precious 8 points were enough for him to qualify for that competition, when all looked lost. It has been a great week for him, because earlier he had qualified for the Midweek League Cup Quarter-finals, when a decent final week took him into the top 8 for the first time this season. As last weeks 3rd to 7th all drop a place, that means thrillseeker now occupies the fimal Super Cup spot. The only other member to move up a place was Daniel, thanks to getting the Coventry 1-1 spot-on. That got him out of the relegation zone, as Sector4 drops back into the bottom three again.

In Division One Having the Crewe 1-0 spot-on enabled GOSBTS to extend his lead to 5 points. The change of name continues to do the trick for Moor_Pinot, and his solid week moves him up a place and back into the other automatic place, after 4 weeks away. But it is only on the most 3 pointer rule from MrHappy2, who will regret not going 1-0 all games, instead of only five, as he went 0-1 on the Crewe fixture. Two outcomes keep Madeira163 in fourth. The decent week for Lewis_1 moves him up a couple of places into fifth. The final play-off place is occupied by oxfcolu, although this his lowest position since Week 6. Two weeks ago there was a 12 point gap between 8th and 9th, but the decent week for Tropical_Us has moved up a place into that 9th spot, and the gap is now only 3 points.

THE TABLES (166 out of 280 played)
(Tie-breaker: Most 3 pointers, and then the first to post)
