Happy League 2022/23 Week 28 (of 38) - Deadline Saturday 4th Februiary 12.30 21:13 - Jan 28 with 1388 viewsmfb_cufc

Week 27 results

MIDDLESBROUGH 2 WATFORD 0

Michael Carrick's Middlesbrough made it nine wins from 13 league games for him, as they moved up to third in the Championship. Only 2 got this spot-on, and a further 17 had the outcome, with 10 going for a 2-1 in what was equally the weeks most predicted score.

BURTON ALBION 2 OXFORD UNITED 0
Burton picked up their first win of 2023, but remain in the League One relegation zone. Again 2 had this spot-on, and 2 also got the outcome. 19 predicted a win for Oxford.

LINCOLN CITY 0 CAMBRIDGE UNITED 0
Lincoln have now gone eight games without a victory in the League after this bore draw, but remain the only undefeated team at home in League One. While Cambridge stopped the rot after four straight defeats. Nobody got this spot-on, but 3 did have the outcome. 21 predicted a win for Lincoln.

PETERBOROUGH UNITED 2 PORTSMOUTH 1
Jonson Clarke-Harris climbed back to the top of the League One scoring charts with a first-half double, as Darren Ferguson's successful return to Peterborough as manager continued with this win. A massive 10 had this spot-on, in what was the weeks other most predicted score, and another 8 got the outcome.

CRAWLEY TOWN 3 SALFORD CITY 2
Crawley gave new boss Scott Lindsey a fine start with a victory in his first game in charge. They had been out of action for 26 days following a string of postponements, and nearly threw away a three goal lead. Nobody got this spot-on, and only Madeira163 had the outcome. 20 predicted a win for Salford.

MANSFIELD TOWN 4 DONCASTER ROVERS 1
Mansfield had won only one of their last seven home matches, that lucky win against the U's. but they roared back into the play-off spots with this rout, as they scored with their only four shots on target. Another game with no 3 pointer, but 15 did get the outcome.

SWINDON TOWN 3 GILLINGHAM 3
Charlie Austin's brace helped 10-man Swindon fight back from 3-1 down to earn a draw. A final game this week with no 3 pointer, though 7 did have the outcome.

Things don't get any easier, as results continue to be unpredictable. Even though there were five home wins, it proved to be another difficult week. In these tough weeks there is always one team that comes to the rescue. This week it was the turn of Peterborough to be the saviour, and their 2-1 win produced 10 of the 14 total spot-ons. The Premier came out on top by 9-5 in that paticular contest. One member did well to have two 3 pointers, that was unitedwhites who had that Peterborough 2-1 and the Middlesbrough 2-0, plus two outcomes, to make him the weeks top scorer with a very decent 8 points. Best of those to have one 3 pointer was thrillseeker, who also got the Peterborough 2-1, and four outcomes to give him a decent 7 points.
The seasons 194 games have finished with 83 (42.78%) home wins, 49 (25.26%) draws and 62 (31.96%) away wins. That means the home wins are now 2% above average, and the away wins 2% below.

In the Premier Having the Peterborough 2-1 spot-on helped to mantain the healthy position for mfb_cufc, but his lead was cut by a point, as the decent week for thrillseeker moved him up place, and back into second. Another to benefit from getting the Peterborough 2-1 spot-on was RSCOSWORTH, and he also moves up a place to third, on the most 3 pointer rule from noah4x4, who sits in the final Super Cup spot. The top scoring performance from unitedwhites moved him up three places to fifth. Despite being another to have the Peterborough 2-1 spot-on, blueeagle drops three places to swap places with him in eighth. Getting the Middlesbrough 2-0 spot-on helped Secto4 improve his chances of avoiding the drop, as he now has a 6 point cushion over what is now the bottom two.

In Division One I have commented over the last two weeks on how this league is hotting up. It has now reached a level probably never seen before at this stage of the season, with just the one point separating the top five. Three outcomes were enough for Moor_Pinot to remain top for the second week running. But it still only on the most 3 pointer rule, now from Madeira163, who moves back into the other automatic spot, after his four outcomes. He in turn only has that 3 pointer rule keeping him above bwildered, who in having the Peterborough 2-1 spot-on, was the only one of the top 8 to get a 3 pointer this week. His third place is the highest position he has obtained since being in the Happy League. After spending the last 13 weeks in the automatic places, GOSBTS has to settle for fourth this week, but only a point off the top. Remaining fifth after his four outcomes is Lewis_1, but he is also only a point off the top. Two outcomes were enough for MrHappy2 to remain in the final play-off place. Two outcomes also for burnsieespana and oxfcolu, as they fail to take advantage, and they remain seventh and eighth. By having the Peterborough 2-1 spot-on Tropical_Us remains ninth, but moved 2 points nearer the top 6. Further down Blue4U2 and durham_exile both improved their positions thanks to getting the Burton 2-0 spot-on.

THE TABLES (194 out of 280 played)

With everybody predicting a win for Arsenal, no points for anybody from this game.

Nobody had this spot-on, but 7 did get the outcome.

ROTHERHAM UNITED 0 SHEFFIELD UNITED 0
Well done to oxfcolu for being the only one to get this spot-on, and just gerry_us and Blue4U2 had the outcome. The other 22 predicted a win for United.

A poor start to the day. Things can only get better.
