In a strange twist of events l found myself in conversation with a young lady who had attended Layer Road for a match against Hull City in our first season in The Championship. The 5-1 encounter.

We were attending a promo evening for a band called The Datsuns in North London in 2008.

During the evening she explained that she had been present at a party that made the national news due to the tragic death of someone by the name of Mark Blanco.

The incident occurred in December 2006.

This incident will be shown on Channel 4 on Monday night at 22.00 in an hour long documentary and several people known to me have made contributions.

It may be of interest to some.

I am very much hoping that the police will reinvestigate the death of Mark Blanco as a result of what will be included in the content.

I know that what l was told by this young lady 15 years ago has been instrumental in the making of this documentary.

Just to confirm that John Stephens is John Legend and Tobias Gad is Tobias Gad.

Just wanted to clear that up from this side of the pond.

Sending great vibes to followers in the U.S.A.

One of the lines from 'All of me' -

'Put your cards on the table, we're both showing hearts'

I just had to revisit this song at day break with the lyrics on screen.....

I noticed something in the recording process with the breathing and a cut ....not sure if l had picked up on that before.

It's a delicate piece of fine tuning to a perfect recording.

It's taken me about 12 years to really listen to 'All of Me' by John Legend in detail.....the piano notes are like footsteps treading softly from star to star....the official video on YouTube is standing at around 2.48 billion....that's a real connection with people's dreams and aspirations around the world.

I think l was about 16 when just to walk through Colchester beside my dream girl from Lexden had me in some kind of trance....her starlight created a dimension of being that had me spellbound.

Listening to 'All of Me' took me back to those few hours back in 1969 and it likely takes it's listeners on a similar journey.

2004.

I'm with a Doctor at East Hill Surgery in Colchester.

He asks me a bizarre set of questions.

I try and answer them best l can and with each answer his frown becomes more deeply etched.

After about the eighth question he says 'You are Gerald xxxxxxxx'.

I say 'No'.

Now that amused me

Now that amused me

One of the questions that the doctor asked was -

'What colour are your stools?'

I replied 'Brilliant White'.

He looked perplexed and l think he wrote it down.

I wondered how on earth he knew about the new breakfast bar fittings and what they had to do with anything.

They had only been delivered the previous day.

If there is one thing that puts a halt to writing it's organising building work and learning about drainage and pipework.

Quite a project required at Sparkfilms HQ after earth movements here on Riverside.

My first Buildings Insurance claim in over 30 years and only the second in this lifetime.

Inspected the most incredible vinyl record collection today that l will catalogue for auction.

Included are - Elastica, Joy Division, Beatles, Smiths, PJ Harvey, Radiohead....etc...these records are mint unplayed with many first pressings and this was just the first box in the pile in storage at a unit in Essex.

The second box was all David Bowie and included Limited Edition Boxed Sets - some appear unopened.

Only inspected a few boxes and begin the project at the end of the week

There was also a wall of guitars, high quality hi - fi systems ( new / boxed ), keyboards and mixing desks etc.

There were several vinyl auctions on around the U.K. in the past week - gross combined sales were over £450,000.

On the subject of auctions l was watching a television programme last night where an individual had to sell off his 30 year collection of antiques, architectural salvage and related items to finance the renovation of a substantial Georgian property in Bath.

The auction took place about a year ago and the gross proceeds from the sale were over £800,000. That was not made completely clear in the docu but auction results are viewable for reference post sale.

At a guess that would have provided Andrew Pritchard of Salvage Hunters ( known as Drew Pritchard ) around £580,000 net.

I have followed Salvage Hunters for several years now and learned quite a bit from it. The production team have filmed in the Colchester area on several occasions over the past few years.

The contractors arrived from Kent yesterday and began the urgent building work required on my home.

We discussed Maidstone's incredible win at Portman Road in the F.A. Cup last year and l was entertained by the cameras that showed images in and under my property.

I have been without kitchen and bathroom for over a week but with improvisation have survived.

It's strange what you relate to when faced with a challenge and l was reminded of the plight of those in Gaza who had no shelter of any kind.

Have been back to the storage unit to begin the planning for the vinyl auction.

There are David Bowie Limited Edition Boxed Sets, Pearl Jam Boxed Sets, Pixies, Nirvana, Blur, Iron Maiden, Guns 'n Roses, around 50 Nick Cave releases, Placebo....the list is quite considerable,
probably everything ever released on vinyl by PJ Harvey....also books ( Factory / Clash ), songbooks....this is a major project that l appreciate being entrusted with and the next shift begins on Monday.

I will be sorting the lots via individual artists and we are setting up work tops for the task.

Aside from the music are film set components - some of which are worth around £10,000 each....l almost feel that l should be paying to work on this....the collection is from an individual who resided in East London.

I have learned so much from purchasing and following a specialist music auction house in Newton - Le - Willows which is equidistant between two great musical strongholds - those being Liverpool and Manchester.

Omega Auctions is only 15 years old but is surely one of best music auction houses in the world.

The guys up there won't be aware of this but their mode of working is something l can relay down here in Essex and replicate in terms of listing and photography.

At my advanced stage of life l still get a buzz from working with human beings in a commercial environment.

Just as well l can take the dog with me when these assignments come along.

The latest one will span a few weeks.

Nine hours of filming today on the Iron Maiden project.

The work is about the logo for the band that we produced in June 1977.

The research team had managed to get the type font books that we used 48 years ago.

I didn't know until 4pm today that the font we used ( known as 'Busk' ) was designed by the late Bush Hollyhead.

I saw a copy of the original design traces for the typeface which were of great interest and are in storage at Brighton University.

That's the lion's share of my input now complete including email Q&A's in Spain, Mexico and Germany.

The team bought some vinyl albums from Iron Maiden spin off's that we sampled in the coffee breaks.

We also discussed ( at length ) the written composition of the early Iron Maiden lyrics to identify the most likely source on five tracks which we believe to be miscredited on the first two albums...that's four on the debut and one on the follow up.

NOTES TO ABOVE -
The first time Busk was ever used was in 1973 for a Charisma Records compilation release. This was shortly after the font was designed and four years before our project.

The typeface was also used on the 1976 film 'The Man Who Fell To Earth' and l was shown multiple uses of Busk on advertising campaigns.

A follow up to the previous post.

The research team who are working on the Iron Maiden logo origin are also in touch with George Hardie who designed the Led Zeppelin debut album sleeve together with Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd among others.

This is part of a wider project about record sleeve design and branding.

It's been a fun day.....and doesn't feel in the least bit like work - which is just as well as none of us are getting paid and supply food and refreshments for the most part.

The first hour of this morning was taken up by dismantling the wall of images l had constructed as a backdrop for yesterday's Q&A section relating to the Iron Maiden logo /.name style origin.

I wasn't briefed to do this as l thought we might have done some of it on location but it was just as well l did as we used it exactly as constructed.

These kind of Q&A's often require quite a number of takes. We got many away at the first attempt, some at the second and a couple at the third.

When someone asks a question that requires a two or three sentence reply it's virtually impossible to repeat it....l would have been prepared to have at least five attempts at some of the questions because they raised some quite emotional reactions that l was not expecting.

'The first cut is the deepest' and the first answer will be in a raw form but will likely carry the purest reaction.

The Iron Maiden debut album lyrics have been subject to scrutiny to confirm the most likely contributors....this is a project l have dipped in and out of over the past six years.

This element may or may not get included in the content of the film as there have been some serious legal issues surrounding this.

I saw something yesterday that reinforced my belief that Dennis Wilcock the Maiden vocalist during 1977 was the most likely source for writing or co-writing / contributing to four particular tracks on the debut album and that he came up with the titles for those songs.

I was shown the ad's he had written for the band that were published in Melody Maker in 1977 / 78. There were some unique word combinations that mirrored his style of copy writing and lyrics.

Some of these ads had appeared in scrapbooks belonging to band members and some were found and copied at The British Library for background info.

I'm not sure if they were part of the evidence to be presented in court around five years ago but they could have made quite a difference in pursuit of an estimated £2.6 million pay out for the writer.

Evening dog walks last week

Monday. Went past Star Anglia Hotel ( think it's called that ) in North Station Road, Colchester.

It was around 7pm. Took the path down the side.

There is a window open and a couple - a male and female appear to be snorting from a hand within or possibly smoking something.

Tuesday - about the same time.

There are four individuals at the window and three of them have their heads and most of their necks in the window. As best they can.

Wednesday around 7.30.

Just two of them tonight in the window but the Manager or possible owner of the establishment is watching them and looking concerned.

Thursday 7.15

There are four police cars in attendance and the police are smashing down one of the doors at the back of the hotel. A lot of shouting and screaming from within.

Friday - around 8pm

One female is half in the window, possibly trying to climb in.

Couldn't make it last night.

Tonight, around 6.45.

A white male is walking away from the window and shouting obscenities at passer's by and jumps in front of a taxi coming down North Station Road that just manages to swerve around him.

He gets back onto the pavement and starts a crazy dance move before falling into the gutter.
