The birth of Iron Maiden 21:49 - Jan 2 with 5542 views | SparkfilmsTV | I have been present at four births. The first three were my daughters who first saw daylight at Colchester Maternity Hospital in Lexden Road, Colchester. When the second one was about to be born l was running up and down the stairs as Graham Gooch was closing in on a hundred and l was following the match on my car radio. The nurses give you a rough idea of an ETA so l felt confident l could witness both events. I had about four trips down to the car and thankfully Goochie struck a boundary to bring up his century. It was a quarter final in the B&H l think. When l returned to the bedside the head was about half way out but there was no midwife to be seen. I began to panic. I ran along to a side room where a baby's head was even further out and the bedside was surrounded by nursing staff. I managed to recruit one of them and we rushed back to the bedside with seconds to spare. It's quite a relief when they slither out in a swimming motion especially with eyes open, and although they cannot speak they seem to say hello in their own way. I have just returned from the Essex coast where this particular baby now resides. So the fourth birth l was to witness was a little different. Although l got to name all my children l didn't get to put a title to this golden child. This was the work of Stephen Percy Harris.. Iron Maiden was the name and he registered the birth which was a very sensible move as another child of the same name was already up and walking in the Basildon area. I didn't actually meet the new baby until it was crawling around an art studio in Rathbone Place, London W.1. The baby already had ambition. It dreamed of a recording contract. It was attending nursery in East End of London public houses where it was getting noticed and had soon made lots of friends. [Post edited 3 Jan 2024 17:27]

The birth of Iron Maiden on 14:49 - Apr 1 by SparkfilmsTV | A couple of the postings ago l mention the art studio in London - Main Titles where Dennis Wilcock worked in the 1980's. Well, they are still thriving after all these years and based in Shoreditch. I emailed them today and the current MD has replied to confirm they were aware of Dennis working for them and realised that he was involved in the music industry but had no idea of the extent of his history with Iron Maiden. The current MD's father who owned the company has been emailed about this today and the guys at Main Titles are checking this out on Google. šš |
Have had a series of exchanges with Main Titles today....they are virtually the only surviving art studio in London that was trading in the seventies. Several of their former staff are living in Colchester, in fact, within a few minutes of East Hill. The current MD remembers them from over 40 years ago! I was also able to mention that Banksy was living around the corner from their office building in Shoreditch in 2006 and previous to this he was sharing a flat in Shoreditch High Street. Main Titles are the UK specialists in mocking up high end packaging for retail. Robert Maxwell had an office very close to Main Titles. He was an impressive individual from the other side of his large desk. Decked out in red braces and enjoyed his rubber plant that loitered in the corner of his office. I always wondered if MI5 had considered placing one of those listening devices in the vicinity.... We did some business transactions with him which ran smoothly and The Smith's 'This Charming Man' always reminds me of him ( not that the song was in the least bit connected to him ).
The birth of Iron Maiden on 18:09 - Apr 1 with 149 views | SparkfilmsTV | Well, I'm carrying on with this because l have just been sent an image of a painting by Reg Suffolk who worked at both Crowes Art Studio ( where he did some Iron Maiden artwork ) and Main Titles. The owner and founder of Main Titles - Maurice Martin is 92 years of age and actually has a painting by Reg above his mantle piece! It's been fun joining up the dots on this today. Shoreditch always springs up somehow....it's a fab area with a special vibe and energy....l bet it looks amazing today under a blue sky. The Iron Maiden project is being driven by people from all corners of the world ...it's been great fun assisting and meeting people who have done the most incredible research.
