According to CUSA there are 28 U’s fans on the coach making its way to Barrow (and no doubt several others making the epic journey from Essex under their own steam), just to spend a couple of hours in a drab windswept stadium, in poor weather, just to watch their heroes.
Every one of them should have an honorary place in the Col U Hall of Fame.
Minimal effort from Taylor for the goal, Tovide put it on a plate for him.
I think most U's fans would say Payne was the best signing.
If only Samson could concentrate on the footy, because we looked twice the team when he came on.
We can't complain about the ref today!!

Mostly not, but on the only viewing I've seen, I did think there was suspicion their keeper got a hand to the ball when he came out of the box second half. However, not much of an appeal from the U's players, so probably not?
Watching that, I can’t help thinking that the players have got to do it on their own, because the Cowleys are clueless. The set up, the approach, just aimless in the first half.
Macey kept us in it straight after half time, then Barrow started to fade. Samson and the ref saved DCs neck.
And give Thorn a decent run. Anderson just doesn't have the physical presence for League 2. And stick with Egbo. Much more of a threat and Hunt looks like a journeyman pro and nothing more.

DC will be very hard to sack…. Will he keep us up ( most probably) will get enough draws to keep us up yes ( will we win 1 in every 8 games ) yes !!!
They really can’t afford to get sacked if they loose this job then they are back to where they should be ( non league ) their footballing career as managers is over.
Also don’t underestimate the amount of fans that genuinely think they’re good and have fallen into the trap of the clapping and playing up to the fans…. Chuckle brothers will be very hard to dismiss from Colchester. Take into account 90% of Colchester fans do not really seem to hold them accountable.
Just listened to a very nice exchange between Neil Kelly of BBC Essex and Samson Tovide.
😊😊
I haven't heard this, but he is a hopeless commentator. I listened to the first 5 minutes today and he gave almost no description of the game, just waffle.

You’re not wrong about the waffle, he’d do well on Test Match Special, but I like him because his enthusiasm can brighten up a dull game.

Neil is aware of his limitations. He has made some classic quotes over the years. He is a thoroughly decent person though and may even enjoy some of the following.
1. Colchester United are drawing One Nil.
2. Colchester United are leading Two Two.
3. Colchester United are losing One One.
4.. He sent the referee the wrong way with the penalty.

Such a poor goal to concede. Flanagan is aware there are two players in the box but instead of demanding someone picks one up he makes a half hearted hand gesture, misses the cross and the spare player scores. Woodyard and Anderson didn't do enough to get back in the box and defend either. I think we were lucky not to concede a penalty after equalising, another mistake from Iandolo who is looking particularly suspect right now. Too many players performing poorly and making errors throughout the match. Once again they look bereft of confidence and belief.

There are so many things going on that simply cannot be explained.
How in Gods name can Hunt start, time and time again, in place of Egbo?
The same with Flanagan and Goodliffe?
A 19 year old Isthmian league bench warmer instead of Matt Jay?
How, when Edwards was fit, was he was always second choice to Gordon?
How have we manged to ruin last years best player?
Why did DH leave?
Hunt has a very good CV, so how have we managed to turn him into a walking disaster area?
I can only assume that Goodliffe and Edwards are made of glass and cannot manage 90 mins on a regular basis?
I cannot believe that when we are up to our waists in the brown stuff, there is talk that our golden ‘boy’ might be swanning off to play for someone else’s country? If he does, I give up with this shower, but can you blame him when the gaffer isn’t 110% committed to working for the U’s?
It feels like we are the only ones that actually give a shit. It’s rotten to the core, there’s no Duguid, Cook, English, Izzet, Eastman etc. We haven’t rebuilt for the future, none of the squad will be here for the duration.
In my many years on this planet, I’ve never met anyone that’s good at their job, that needs to spend so much time brown nosing and bullshitting. Those are almost always the traits of a chancer.
I know it’s only 5 minutes since I was thinking that we should persevere, but with the piss poor effort and lack of commitment over the last week, I don’t think we should waste another transfer window unless there’s 4 or 5 league wins this side of Christmas. The last thing we need is more journeymen or panic signings.
In terms of wins, 6 in 34 is by far the worst the U's have had from any manager that's been given a fair crack at the job, and the worrying thing is that we are getting worse, not better.
“According to U’s boss Danny Cowley, the 25-year-old could potentially need an operation to correct a previous procedure that continues to irritate the forward. He’s leaving that to the Blues to decide, though, with Colchester having ‘done all they can’ to get Scully fit and available for selection.”
So we took a chance on a crock to replace Bradley and it’s not worked. What a complete waste of time and effort. It turns out he'd wrecked his ankle last March at Pompey and hadn't gotten over it.
Is this Shirleys work? Was it his idea to sign him?
People are queuing up to take the piss out of us.
Confirming the development to Gazette News, Cowley said: ‘We signed Anthony right at the end of deadline day. Unfortunately, the Bradley (Ihionvien) deal happened so late that most of our options had gone by that point.
‘When you do it that late, as we did with Anthony, you can’t do it with a medical and all these types of things, you don’t have the time.
“He’s had an ankle injury which has been quite long-standing really. There’s some metal work in that ankle injury from a previous operation which has been really irritating him."
What a shit way to run a football club.
The annoying thing is that I don't have a season ticket anymore, so I can't send it back and tell RC to stick it up his arse.

It's just a f-ing joke!

I had a look at the who's who section of the official site to see who Shirley might be. Although he's not listed as being a member of staff I presume it is Simon Bassey.
What astonished me is the number of employees. Colchester United appear to have, or will have when vacancies are filled, nearly sixty employees behind the team or backroom staff. This seems a huge figure for a club averaging about 4,300 for home matches. I'm in no position to say whether it is excessive or not but I do wonder what Sir Jim Ratcliffe would have made of it if he'd bought into The U's rather than manu.

The big payroll is a necessity to maintain Cat 2 status for the academy, but in fairness, it is partly funded by the Prem and by the sale of its products.
Unfortunately the young players, that are good enough, are thin on the ground and sold far too early and therefore the whole set up hasn’t had the desired effect at the moment and it is clearly more of a distraction than an asset.
Whilst I am annoyed at DC having a second job while he’s not doing too spectacularly at his main one, I still feel that our sell, sell, sell policy has meant that he hasn’t had a fair chance and the club has missed what could be its final chance to turn its fortunes around.
Because of the secrecy that surrounds the club, we will never know just how big his budget has been over the summer, but I would guess it’s a fraction of the money that has come in.
With regard to the large number of staff, there have long been suspicions that its a case of too many cook... and it has been suggested some senior backroom staff may have a little too much say in the way the club operates.
Whatever the facts, it is a mess and I can well imagine that DC/NC wish they'd gone to Bradford.

In fairness to Mr Bassey, he left Pompey long before 'Mr Meccano Foot' had his nasty injury.
