I do happen to think it's time for that conversation. I full appreciate not many will agree, as I'm sure was the case at other clubs who've moved grounds. Transport links to and from Spotland are poor and that's being kind and the pitch issues, parking issues etc etc. I'm not saying we definitely need to go or anything but I think the conversation needs to be had and options explored.
If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor

been around for a bit this - remember the call for a new club called Manchester North End? Supposed to be the Dale, bury etc...
Can we ask the question - ok where would we go?

Therein lies a major problem, whilst there are lots of poorly used spaces that might be developed, there is really only one option currently (perhaps) and that would be along what is becoming known as Atom Valley running alongside the M62 between Rochdale Bury and Oldham https://www.atom-valley.co.uk/ It involves some 7000 new houses and an "Advanced Materials" centre intended to be an incubation unit for start up High Tech businesses. There is little information about schools, doctors and other infrastructure that you might expect 15-20,000 people or so might need, Whether there is room for a new stadium at the moment is a moot point but it would be an ideal greenfield site, just off the Motorway. Then you run into issue 2, the financing for a new stadium and associated training ground / community hub. You could make the argument that such a facility amidst 7000 new houses is needed and not currently in the plan, which might be an argument to put to RMBC and Gtr. Manchester Council. Offering the current stadium for housing development would be welcome to RMBC ..you would think, as it would solve the perennial parking disputes but the income from selling it might be enough to attract further financing given the current owners Equally, with sufficient financial backing the club could potentially redevelop the Spotland site itself. If there is a plan to rebuild / redevelop the main stand somewhat though I would assume a new stadium is not on the agenda... we await news, which seems like a default setting these days.

I would imagine there are limited options and raises the Kingsway Business Park land which is disssapearing quickly last time I drove up there but should be enough room for a FC Utd style ground I mean let’s face it, we don’t need an Old Trafford do we…
There is a lot of land in Heywood around the new motorway link road as well but is that technically removing the Rochdale Link even though it is technically in the Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale.
Is the old All in One Garden Centre big enough now it’s been flattened?
Can’t really think of anywhere “free” and big / flat enough.. Buying the Cricket / Lacrosse place I doubt is an option as access from the mini roundabout would cause carnage on match days & even less parking round there…
Also, I remember all the posts on here about a Training Ground & not a lot of suitable options

Just been thinking about going to FGR - honestly had no idea where it is... so looked at their website... B'jesus their plans for a new stadium looks like its out of a star trek film.:
I would argue strongly against moving to a new ground because I don’t think any business plan to do so would stack up.
I think asking the question now when we have problems with the playing surface misses the point, which to me is the fact that over the last five years our club has been mismanaged, on and off the pitch.
Spotland is cited as having poor public transport links, is that right? When the ground is a 20-25 minute walk from the town centre, a town centre which is served by pubs, rail, tram and bus links and has hotel accommodation. The ground has ample parking within a mile, on street and at Oulder Hill. It could be improved with shuttle buses and so on, but that applies to any ground.
I stopped going to Shrewsbury when they moved ground, used to be a great away trip, now it’s a logistical puzzle.
If anyone thinks a local authority will grant a planning permission for a new ground with a large car park, they can think again. Ask a Brighton fan.
Let’s not conflate the problems we have with the playing surface with the disastrous leadership the club has had, crowds haven’t grown, not because of where Spotland is located, but because successive boards have disregarded fans as customers, compounded by relegation and at best inconsistent home league form.
Moving ground is a red herring, let’s focus on getting out of this dreadful league as fast as possible and delivering the Ogdens three year plan.

A stadium built of wood. The Bradford disaster comes to mind. No solar panels either.
They are owned by the founder of Ecotricity - one of largest electricity suppliers in the UK. He knows what he is doing. We could do worse than engage with them - it has been said on here before that we might have had a more sensible approach to utility costs had we done so when the club committted to a 2 year deal at the height of tariffs.

Whilst FGR's stadium is impressive I believe planning permission was initially refused by the local council. Of course that may have changed now. Dartford's stadium is equally impressive, wooden structure, solar panels, rainwater collection and green roof, however only a capacity of 4,500 and cost approx £7m. I an not opposed to a new stadium but I wouldn't want to see us move into a Chester, Scunthorpe or even Boston's new stadium. If suitable land can be found I would like to see something along the lines of Leigh Sports Village. Stadium, college campus, multi sports facilities running track, swimming pool, all weather pitches that can be hired out and that the local schools can use. Even closer ties with Hopwood Hall college, sports science, personal trainer courses with placements for students at the complex. Sports and fitness need only be one part of it. You have gym facilities on site the gym I used to got to in Essex had a hairdressers and a beauty parlour attached. Again more apprenticeships could be involved. Have retail spaces, sports shops which could sell Dale merchandise alongside regular sports gear. The possibilities really are endless all it needs is a plan, imagination and a s*** load of money
