Swindon - What Else is There ? 18:30 - Sep 4 with 853 views

Once you've seen the magic roundabout (we had the first in the UK remember), seen the locomotive in the out of town shopping mall and if open the museum the answer is not a lot else.
However just outside Swindon are the large exhibition stores of the Science Museum. Very sadly these are very rarely open to the general public and from the reports I have seen there is virtually no conservation being carried out so that historically significant vehicles are sitting on flat tyres and without their engines being turned over occasionally. Very occasionally one is "liberated" by a major uk museum but others will rot and die.
Let's hope we can liberate 3 points.

There’s Nationwide Building Society HQ. I worked there as an external consultant for a month. It’s like a city within a city. Huge infrastructure.

Until 2021 Honda cars were manufactured there until Brexit and trade tariffs shifted manufacture to Japan, USA and China. The plant was demolished in 2024.

There is only one away friendly pub.

Best thing to come out of Swindon is the A419, there’s not much else - though there is a good Polish deli in the Brunel Centre.
