What are we all reading? 18:56 - Apr 24 with 8319 viewsWarfieldHoop

We havn't had one of these threads for a while, so what is everyone currently reading or read?

I'm reading The Map by T.S Learner which was only published earlier this year. It's a mystery thriller with history in the style of Dan Brown (only not as good imo). Before that I read Hawk Quest which I reccomend to anyone who enjoys historical fiction. Next up will be Scott of the Antarctic by David Crane.

Well, I used to think so too until I got one! I spend £100 a month on books and my wife was sick of them all around the house so was trying to get me to get a Kindle, but I always resisted on the grounds that it wasn't the same as cracking the spine etc. She ended up buying it for me as a risky pressie...

But I've got to say it's actually rather good, although I do miss the covers. Will be really useful on holiday as I can go through a book a day on a fortnight holiday and that's quite a chunk out of baggage allowance with real books.

Danvan - with all due respect your initial instinct was right. Read for England (or wherever) and treasure the furniture and dust-carrying properties of the £100 per month you spend on your reading! It would be dead easy to get poncey about Kindles but in fact I like them - but they're not for me - I am a committed dinosaur with a house full of volumes and QPR programmes . May I recommend Project Gothenburg- great choice of oldish books and they're free. Currently enjoying "The Male Gaze" by Joe Treasure and "Old School" by Tobias Wolff.

I'm one of those people prone to reading 4-5 books at a time...

Currently engrossed in Arthur and George (Julian Barnes,) Tender is the Night
(Fitzgerald,) 1599 a year in the life of Shakespeare by James Shapiro and Kafka on the Shore by Murakami.

I blame this annoying tendency to have several books on the go at once to being married to an english lit. grad!!

I've gone one step farther than a kindle and am 'reading' an audio-book.

First time I've tried it and quite good so far - can listen to it while walking from the train to work and back every day.

Course the voice you're listening to must not be irritating - the site I use (Auduble.com) let's you listen to 5 minute extracts to check it out.

Listening to American Gods by Neil Gaiman. Pretty good and not necessarily something I'd have read in actual paper.

A Life Too Short:The Tragedy of Robert Enke.

A brilliant book, but it really is horribly moving in places. Depression is something we really don't talk about enough.

Mervyn Peakes Ghormenghast Trilogy.Again, but well worth it.In fact over all the years it must be five or six times now.

Russia: a 1,000 year chronicle of the Wild East by (the BBC's)Martin Sixsmith.
Oooh they love an autocratic strong man over there.
Anybody watched Russia Today on Freeview Channel 85? English and american presenters and 70%+ of the programme spent in and criticizing America yet very little critical investigations of what's happening inside Russia today.Curious.

'I'm 18 with a bullet.Got my finger on the trigger,I'm gonna pull it.." Love,Peace and Fook Chelski! More like 20StoneOfHoop now. Let's face it I'm not getting any thinner. Pass the cake and pies please.

11.22.63 by Stephen King, so far so good.

Last book was Edgar Allen Poe (collection free on iPad!).

"11.22.63 by Stephen King, so far so good."

Bizarrely, just reading that too. About a third of the way through. Finished "under the dome" before this one, which was good.

I recently read all of the A Song of Ice and Fire books (better known as the TV show Game of Thrones) all the way through.

Am now reading Pillars of The Earth as it's as suitably long as ASOIAF but after that series I'm finding it hard to read other fiction as I keep expecting all the main characters to die at any given moment

Just finished The Snowman by Jo Nesbo - Nowegian author in the style of Steig Larrson (allegedly as I have yet to read any Larrson yet). Quirkly dectective novel set in Stockholm. Paperback lent to me by my mum who has a couple of his Harry Hole based dectective novels.

Thank God for Kindles. I got my Mrs one for Christmas as I was fed up of having to tip toe around the piles of books in the bedroom. She was a little resistent to the concept at first, but now she really appreciates it. On the odd occasion she takes a break when she is given a paperback then I jump on and continue reading the Complete Works of Sherlock Holmes as it was 77p to download the entire works as it is over 100 years old.

I am looking forward to reading the forthcoming tome "101 Referee Cock-Ups 2012 - Volume 1: Loftus Road"

Poll: With no leg room, knees killing me, do I just go now or stay for the 2nd half o?

Welsh's? How come? If you mean Reheated Cabbage I got the impression that was more of an obligation to his publishers than a piece of work he was genuinely happy to release.

Ecstasy is coming out on film soon, will be interesting to see what they do with that. Heard they were trying to make Porno into a film, but that Ewen McGregor wasnt interested in being Renton.

What else was I supposed to give her?
"I dont want any clothes, not until I've shifted these last few pounds in the new year"
"I've got enough perfume so don't get me any".
"Just get me something small, I don't really want anything"
"It's been a tight year so just get me a pair of those cheap hairy slipper boots"

Now I wish I had not bothered buying her it as she is never off the bloody thing because she does not have to get off her ass to go and buy another one - she can simply log on to the store and download one as soon as she is finished.

95?

I've read all of his books and in some cases twice.

Was he the one who wrote those Waffen SS stories I used to read as a young teen?
