Official Ashes Thread. on 14:39 - Jan 4 by exiledclaseboy | The first hour of yesterday was the most depressing hour of cricket I've seen for a long time. Decent fast bowling, good lines and lengths and some agression from Johnson but good bowling, nothing exceptional. Yet the level of batting on offer from our experienced top order was astonishing in its ineptitude. Cook looked like a broken man after he padded up to a straight one and I'd be surprised if he can come back from this, despite his excellent record as captain prior to this series. Onwards and upwards. Two tests against Sri Lanka followed by five against India this coming summer. |
Every ball Johnson bowled that was back of a length had brown stuff running down the legs of England's batsmen, then Harris bowling his full deliveries had them shapeless, pathetic it really was.

Watched Cook being interviewed earlier, he spoke like he was completely shell shocked and looked it, not sure him or some of the other's England careers can survive this.

The facts are we haven't batted well for a couple of series and our bowlers have won matches for us I think a few of them will be torn between finishing now but not wanting to do so after such a stuffing

Flower's already said he's staying and the ECB CEO has also said Cook's position as captain is safe. Let's not forget, Cook had an unbeaten series record as Test captain prior to this disaster. It'll be interesting to see who's in the team that starts the first Test against Sri Lanka in May. I can't imagine we'll see Trott, Rankin, Bairstow and Carberry again any time soon. Anyone want to take a guess? Cook, Root, Bell, Pietersen, Ballance, Stokes, Prior, Borthwick, Broad, Anderson, and A N Other quick bowler.

I agree with prior coming back There aren't many names coming out of county cricket to challenge the old guard Carberry selected before root was a surprise as he's no long term option What's happened to Steven finn? Stories of him struggling in the nets?
