See Manchester City pushing for B teams in EFL as part of the cost of money from Premiership. To my mind a bad idea but as they have been let into the EFL Cup guess they already have a large nasty controlling foot in the door.
I agree that it's a bad idea. People are crying out that the gov/Prem have to support the EFL or the integrity of our football pyramid may be permanently damaged, but accepting financial aid with this caveat would be doing just that: damaging the integrity of the pyramid.
It already happens here in the French pyramid - my French isn't up to knowing how this impacts, nor whether promoting B sides is permitted but the French pyramid is very similar to our own.
Same in Portugal. Benfica and Porto have a B team in Liga Pro which is our championship. They can’t get promoted to Premier Liga but if the A team were to be relegated (highly unlikely) or they finish bottom they can be relegated to the third tier
just a side note Maritimo from Madeira won 3-2 away to Porto last week. First time ever a Madeiran team ever won in Porto
