A bit more encouraging considering a number of less experienced players were in the team. Some nice football played on the deck at times.
But where are the goals coming from? Need to replace Platt fast!
Three up front (Vincent, Hackney Odejay) didn't really fire. Midfield was consequently rather flat. Tackling back and foraging for the ball in midfield was limited (Lee Beevers apart - but didnt shine as much going forward), but the defence held OK. Needed an Izzit and/or Perkins to give us more bite.
To be fair, I thought Chelmsford were quite impressive, especially down the flanks. We should perhaps sign their left winger - a strong powerful runner with good ability.
Medi Elito (on for Odejay) barely had a kick in 30 minutes until he did it with two feet and up-ended a defender. Yellow carded, and was rightfully withdrawn (should have been red). Was good practice for U's defending with 10 men in last ten minutes. From what I have seen at Heybridge, Maldon and now Chelmsford, I reckon we might end a fair few games a man short. |  |
