Dementia in Football 12:48 - Mar 13 with 394 views | TheOldOakTree | It's quite sobbering to listen to this once hard man and general grade A 'nutter' talk about how his previous career might affect his family in the coming years. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c798x88l9j7o I'm sure I'm not the only one that's had to nurse a parent through this terrible demise. Albeit a few years ago now, but it's a pile of crap and by far the worst thing I've ever had to deal with. Windass managed to get three red cards in one match whilst playing in Scotland!!!! One for a second yellow, another for calling the ref a Scottish c@#t when he sent him off and a third for smashing the corner flag on his way to the dressing room, and we though Big Roy was bad!!!! And from a professional point of view have come across many cases of early onset dementia, none of which had anything to do with sport as far as I know. So pinpointing sport as the cause in individual cases is very difficult, as overall case numbers in sport are relatively low. It's just a personal opinion, but I think the case for a contributory effect is stronger in rugby than football. But whatever the causes, it's still a devastating condition for those affected and their families and friends, especially given the lack of really effective treatments. | | | |
