The start of the mini-league according to JD.

Scunny are in Town for the first of three six pointers in quick succession.

Never mind the statistics or the records, it’s all about goals and Colchester has not been scoring any of late.

Despite the rally to the troops two of the boarders have opted for a Scunny win. That is despicable and plays into Laws comments about lack of commitment and atmosphere. Sort it out!

Colchester simply has to win tomorrow — most would take a 1-0 ugly win but 4-0 would do just nicely.

JD will be without the mercurial talent of Anthony Wordsworth who managed to pick up his tenth booking last week at Donny Rovers. Frankly on current form he is no loss, but we will miss Kem Izzet who was outstanding at the Keepmoat last Saturday. Tom Eastman is not yet fully fit and so will not be risked.

JD has moved quickly to bring in a talented youngster Billy Clifford from Chelsea. His talents lie on the football field where he plays as an attacking midfielder but he was also involved in the altercation at Chelsea’s training ground fracas at Cobham when a smoke grenade was exploded causing the complex to be evacuated. Clifford was fined for his part in the high jinks while another footballer was allowed to leave the club as a result.

Hopefully his efforts tomorrow will be confined to the field of play.

JD must decide what formation to play — I’m suggesting an attacking 4-3-3 as follows:

Cousins

Wilson Magnus Thompson Rose

Clifford Bean Wright

Massey Samuel Sears

Subs:

Pentney White Heath Porter Morrison Gilbey Sanderson

Reasoning:

The back four were very confident last week and but for an unfortunate slip by Wilson would have definitely kept a clean sheet. I expect them to be retained for this important match. There is also a bit of previous with Rose and Laws.

Midfield — Marcus Bean must start with the youngster Clifford (a Sanchez Watt type of player) and the outstanding Drew Wright. Wright “will tear you apart” as the faithful, sang last week.

Upfront let Massey have a free rein and make sure that he gets some shots on target. Sears to support young Samuel who showed enough last week to suggest that he has goals in him.

Likely subs — Morrison and Porter second half perhaps last 30 minutes.

Strangely enough the pressure is all on Scunny especially after that idiot Laws made the comments that he did and after their General Manager refused to take a financial loss on the coach travel by cancelling their supporters coach.

We need to keep an eye on Akpo Sodje however.

Time for Colchester players to step up to the plate and secure the start of our recovery.

Enjoy the game — and the atmosphere.

Up the U’s
