Negatives from today

I usually watch the warm up from the bottom row of SAR before going up to my seat up the back and didn’t bother yesterday mate - as you say was absolutely rotten. Thank God for the performance and result at least.

Mate, BBC has a weather page and there are apps like Accuweather.

When you said it was the wettest you had been I presumed you had been complementing the team initially.

January transfer rumours thread
at 21:55 30 Dec 2024

Due to the usual over expectation of number of actual family gatherings, general decreasing appetites of parents and siblings, then a complete outbreak of whatever virus is taking more people down over Christmas than Lt. John McClane, I can offer the club the following to sell off to increase the transfer budget for January

2 crates of Guinness (24 x 440ml cans)
2 bottles of Baileys
Approximately 4kg of various Waitrose poncey sounding cheeses (most countries of Europe included)
2kg of Swedish Turnip
1kg of carrots
2/3 of a carton of Brandy Sauce (probably past its best)
Half a Christmas pudding
Half a kilo of “meats for cheese”
2 boxes of Carrs Crackers (“why did you order the cheese ones?”)
1 jar of cranberry sauce (unopened)

Unless they really need it, I am keeping the Jameson bottles for the hot toddies.

Budgies vs Rs Match Thread

Was genuinely going to be happy with a max of a 2 nil loss today, based on the last performance and the back 4 being decimated and Fox and Ashby starting - albeit Ashby was back over on the right.

Initially felt frustrated because too much dicking around with the ball and Varane switched off when he conceded the throw that led to their goal.

Overall, really happy with a point on the road, with that line up. Field protected for Watford by subbing after his yellow, Clarke-Salter hopefully being kept back for Watford and no further injuries please God.

Still not looking forward to NYD against Watford, but this makes me feel a little more upbeat.

You are not wrong.

The answer to the problem though is generally one of three things - depending on who you believe.

We cannot afford to bring in any better
Our Manager should be able to coach what we have to be much better
Our scouting and recruitment team have been poor in recruitment for the last 30yrs
cos there are 1000s of cheap and better options out there if we had a decent set up

Just Back...
at 13:30 27 Dec 2024

Was thinking about this and what troubles me is that our best spells this season have been based on "being undefeated. So whilst the Dunne, Morrison, Cook, Pall back 4 with Field and Varane base has kept the clean sheets or conceded few goals generally, we have not exactly been smashing teams.

Take Morrison (undefeated) and Cook out of that back four and I agree that we HAVE to consider Field and JCS in a four with Dunne and Pall (Mr hot and cold).

I don't know if my considering Fox a total liability is justified, but the thought of Fox and Ashby covering the left channel for another game fears me with dread. Is it me or does Ashby have a tendency to want to come back in field on his right foot and avoid the simple pass and tries to play the high stakes ball across the front of the D which are waiting to be picked off by the opposition?

So pushing Field back in to the back 4 that leaves Varane and Morgan as the only two I trust to be in centre mid, but after that I am really struggling to think of an effective replacement for shifting Field in to the back line from the more forward role he has played in the last couple of weeks.

Neither of the two Danes could stand up in there without a Field or Colback doing the dirty work and we still have not seen enough of Dixon-Bonner to understand whether he can step in and add any grit to the midfield.

I could almost accept another loss at Norwich, if there were any positive news about even a Colback being ready to either start or come off the bench on New Year's Day so that we can stop Watford doing a repeat of the opening game last season. 3 defeats over Christmas and all the good work and positivity quickly goes south.

Nardi
Dunne JCS Field Pall
Varane
Morgan ?
Smith Chair
Frey

Can't see any positives for Sunday

That's what I love about some of the "posters" on this site.

7 games unbeaten, won the last three on the bounce at home.
Won 3 of the last 5 away.

One terrible half of football and mummy is going to have to go and find some dummies to hand out.

Happy Christmas Loftforwords

Wishing everyone on here a very merry Christmas and a happy new year.

The only fans site I ever visit and it still amazes me the breadth of topics that get raised and answered on here and the support that people who are struggling are given.

Then there is the quality of the editorial output and how I still have to check in before going to sleep of a Sunday night in case the latest match report has landed :-)

Best wishes to one and all

Cook?

It is one nasty injury. It came on suddenly on my way home from work on the tube about 5 years back, literally out of nowhere and I could not put weight on my right foot and had to ask to sit down on a crowded train. Mrs had to collect me from the station. Hopefully, a fit, professional footballer with youth on their side and excellent physio access 7 days a week will mean he will recover quicker than I did as we will need him for the run in.

Was Prestons goal totally against the morals of the game
at 10:40 23 Dec 2024

The only unfair thing about that incident was that it lead to a one on one from which they scored - otherwise they had no hope of scoring against us on Saturday as they were very very poor. The "air of injustice" that followed the incident at least got the home crowd fired up and hopefully the team used it at half time to go out and put it right.

Preston Reflection
at 10:24 23 Dec 2024

I'll tell you how good we were Brian.

In the BBC report of the game, in the managers' comment section, they quote Heckingbottom saying 3 times how good QPR were. Admittedly he complained about the ref being a "homer" and giving us everything, but that aside he knew we played them off the park. So for a manager to actually have to admit we were good, we must have been good.

As regards the ref, I thought, if anything, he was way too lenient with the way Preston tried to kick us off the park for most of the game. Perhaps the sending off was a tad harsh but that second goal was coming and the sending off didn't really change the game with only 10mins. You could smell it in the air those last 10mins that we would get the 2nd goal.

Let's hope Steve Cook has a fast recovery as he has been immense for us in that back 4 throughout.

Hence why I used the word “guessing”.

There has to be a reason - you’re saying he is grounded and appear to know him.

So if that’s the case, what’s the reason for CN and Marti’s comments?

Is it the dad who is not so grounded????

I know of one example from a very close sauce that one particular dad of a current England international was an absolute shark in dealing with the clubs personally and was sorting out the right spec Mercs for both him and his Mrs and the 4 bedroom detached house that they would move to with their 15yr old son once they signed and moved norf!

Funnily enough I totally disagree with this point.

What I think, again just like everyone else on here - i.e. having no actual facts about what goes on within the club - is that what Kolli Snr and some on here are asking for is bigger bucks based on potential as opposed to earning the bigger money once you have made the progression from youth to development to first team and proven you are the real deal on a Saturday or winter Tuesday night in Barnsley.

Both CN and Marti have passed guarded comments that Rayan knows what he has to do to progress in to the first team and that was accelerated on Tuesday night when Zan had to go off.

So he came on and delivered, if Frey and Celar are still not fit this Weds night and he starts again and comes on and has another great game then his stock rises having proven he can do it.

Guessing........ I think the big hair comes with a big personality/ego and he has been strutting around the place (maybe his dad telling him he is too good for QPR bench) and thinks he is the next great thing and this is merely a stepping stone for him to bigger things. Daddy is telling the 27yr old DOF to break the bank and sign his son on big wages as he is brilliant otherwise they will go to somewhere where he will be appreciated.

Someone said on here after Saturday's game about him being the next Adel....... not sure if that was supposed to be a good or a bad thing because an Adel brings both joy and frustration.

Hoping Kolli does start again on Weds, smashes Oxford to pieces and then proves to the club that he is the new messiah and not just a very naughty boy!
