Think you might be being a bit hard on yourself there, fella. No need to go full Milton on us. You're got some cranky ideas but I think your heart's in the right place. |

One of the problems is that the fascists have successfully played this line that comparing anything to Nazis/Fascists is lazy and boring. 'Yawn, not another comparison to Hitler - do me favour' that sort of thing. But the trouble is, as you say, the playbook being used is exactly the one used in the first half of the 20th century, so the comparisons are fair enough. I think the US will be lucky to survive a second Trump term as a constitutional democracy. It will probably turn on how deeply baked in a commitment to liberty and the US constitution truly is. It will probably also turn on the integrity of the Supreme Court judges. I have a faint hope that even those wrong'uns appointed by Trump might at some point hold the line. You can get the unlikeliest of heroes at times like this - Mike Pence, for example. And it's telling that anyone historian with a deep understanding of the twentieth century knows exactly what's going on. Timothy Snyder's 'Bloodlands' is one of the best books I've ever read. He has got Trump et al's numbers. Has so for many years now. |
 | Forum Reply | Sport Republic Can Be A Big Success For Southampton Says Spors at 14:45 21 Mar 2025
Just like I've got absolutely no interest in hearing that Juric wants to stay next season, I couldn't care less that Sport Republic's latest appointee thinks that Sport Republic and their model are going to be great. Seriously, wtf else is he going to say: 'I think there are some important things to sort out at senior management level - clearing out a few duff decision makers, that sort of thing - and obviously the strategy in relation to on the pitch matters needs to changes radically - started with the appointment of an effective manager and the recruitment of decent players - but other than that, I'm really looking forward to getting stuck in to my new role'. Fine words butter no parsnips. The proof of the pudding is in the eating. Let's judge Mr Spors by the effect, if any, he has on our fortunes. |

Sure, a free pass from his investors. But that doesn't mean we have to give him one too. I'm going to stop referring to SR being the problem. Solak is the problem. He's the one with money and the power, and who can get it sorted. It's all on him from here for me. |

Sounds like a great trip (if you can keep your head down!) My thought at the moment is to go to Toronto and then take a few days train ride over to The Rockies. |

I was planning a trip to the US in the summer but have changed my mind. Don't fancy a spell incognito in a US immigration centre because my socks are the wrong colour. Will probably go to Canada instead. Be good to get there before the US invasion. |

No disrespect to those other leagues but I am pretty sure that having a PL team in your portfolio is pretty 'central to the success of the fund'. And, while SR presents itself as some sort of Venture Capital outfit, my guess would be that Solak is by far the principal investor and the one with whom the buck stops. So, again, not sure why he gets a free pass. |

I am not sure why Dragan gets a free hit? It's his money and everyone else in the organisation knows that. They'll either be doing what they are told or doing what they think he wants them to do. And we have no idea what sort of person he is in terms of hearing bad news... ...or having egg on his face. He, after all, was the one doing the media not so long ago praising Juric as the man for the long term. Also, maybe he's the ditherer when it comes to moving on the dead ducks. |

I keep having to double check that he hasn't got a new job that I've missed... ...but Steve Cooper both got a team promoted and then kept them in the Premier League, and even if he was ultimately sacked, that team is now 3rd in the PL. All managers are a gamble and all managers have bad patches but I'd rather go for someone who has actually done the thing that we want to do, rather than the latest interesting idea that turns sour. Of course, Cooper probably won't suit Solak because he wins too many games. 42 out of 108 at Forest, and 47 out of 105 at Swansea before that. Who needs a win percentage north of 38% when you've got Juric struggling to beat 15% ? |
 | Forum Reply | Ivan Juric Positioning Himself To Continue In Southampton Job at 13:37 18 Mar 2025
What an absolute non-story. Seriously, who gives a flying f*ck through a rolling doughnut what Juric wants or how he is positioning himself. And if our new Technical Director hasn't already worked out that this guy is completely incompetent and an absolute chancer - which I'm sure he has, because a child of 6 has worked that out - then we are doomed to life in League 1. |
