50 years ....
at 14:47 12 Jun 2025

Heartbreaking is an understatement

I would say that many fans of my generation (I was 11 in '76) are still traumatised by it to this day, especially as one of their goals was blatantly offside, even by 70's standards..

A definite sliding doors moment for the club as a whole, that day..

That's a very good point, Dave.

Even Richard Dobson was on a podcast a few weeks ago saying that Wild Thing and he were not told the full extent of the constraints they were going to be operating under and that they both felt they had been mis-sold the opportunity, and he's a lifelong R's fan as we know, who was made up to be offered the role.

That said, taking your analogy to its logical conclusion, you'd have to think that Marti is less than impressed with what he will see as Nourry's draconian overreaction to what goes on all the time in the general footballing world.

If he wasn't actively looking for the exit before now but was just "assessing his options" I doubt this episode will have done very much for his desire to stay loyal to the club.

He's the current St. Mirren manager. Well thought of up there and rumoured to be in the frame for a number of Championship jobs (as they all are at this time of the year, of course).

Ollie had a big hand in this, having seen him play for the youth teams at Millwall when he was managing there. He'd heard that Ebs wasn't going to be offered professional terms and recommended him to Chris Ramsey knowing that we would absolutely love him.

Cup final tangential thoughts.

Whatever else we might want to criticise Nourry for, at least the support and structure for pro-active youth development and a uniform "QPR DNA" is already paying dividends.

It just needs to be consistently and continually supported in this way going forwards.

I thought he set his Reading team up against us really well when they beat us in that pre-season friendly.

I'm liking the reference to Kevin Betsy in this statement, and the general tone of it seems to be that Nourry at least recognises the need for stability/continuity if these players are actually going to develop and also that he maybe needs to work a bit harder to keep the fans onside (especially at this precise moment).

I think Kevin Betsy deserves a shout out for coming up with the Colback move and for organising what was clearly a productive week in training. Knowing the players and having worked with them closely, he'd be an obvious safe pair of hands to take over permanently, which is precisely why he probably won't get offered the job.

He is - and everyone's perfectly entitled to tell him exactly what they think of them and the manner in which he often chooses to express them.

Its clearly never occurred to you that there might actually be a perfectly valid reason that people are so "obsessed" with you, as you put it.

You claim that you're "victimised" and "scapegoated", and yet not once have you ever publicly apologised to anyone on here who you might have offended through your violent outbursts of aggression directed at anyone who takes exception at the often strident and self-important manner in which you respond to their criticisms.

In addition you often take extreme positions on matters and express them in a provocative manne , and then recoil in horror when people call you out on it.

You are right to conclude that there is literally no other poster on this website that this happens to, but you remain sadly incapable of understanding why or making any real attempt to - that's pretty tragic for someone of your obviously advanced years.

In actual fact, I think most people on here are laughing at you out of kindness to try to prompt you to change your behaviour before its too late for you - I know I am.

Isn't it amazing that we're all sitting here watching this conglomeration of wills and oversized egos staking their claim over what is at least in pure P&L terms a failing business?

You would have thought that these supposed captains of industry would have worked out by now that for any business to succeed it needs everyone pulling together and on message, but, as we've mused on here many times before, football seems to give these suited wonders an excuse to behave poorly in a way that simply wouldn't be tolerated in any other context.

To adapt Mario Balotelli's well-chosen phrase slightly: "Why always us?"

Cifuentes placed on garden leave as reign that promised so much unravels

Did Marti actually leak that himself? That makes no sense.
The truth is surely that he grew ever more frustrated at having to pretend that all was fine and dandy behind the scenes when clearly this stuff had been getting to him for literally months with no sign of a resolution.
All he's really said publicly is that "This season has been by far the most challenging of my career, not just on the pitch but also the things the fans don't see". He then made a point in that same interview with Phil Parry to say "some things need to stay internal".
That doesn't sound like someone trying to manipulate the situation to his own advantage - more like someone who feels like they've been screaming out that something's wrong and being told repeatedly that the sky is blue, not black, and its their fault for looking at it wrongly.
As Clive said the other day, the West Brom leak to West London Sport has more than likely come from Nourry's office, not Cifuentes' people, and its been strategically leaked just in advance of the official announcement from the club to make it look like Nourry and the club itself are poor innocent victims, rather than the guilty party.

This list would simply not be complete without mentioning Ollie. As has been mentioned by so many people so often, you'll struggle to find anyone who will happily give you his undivided attention for as long as you can handle it in such an all-encompassing manner without ever making you feel like he feels he's superior to you.

Nice work Ruben

To be honest, the meat of this story is no different from the longer WLS piece we were talking about earlier, just with a slightly sensationalised headline in the typical Sun way which we all love oh so much..

"Could" quit - in the same way that they famously reported that we "could" get a 12-points deduction in relation to Ale Faurlin, and decided to splash it all over the back page about 24 hours before the verdict was passed.

That one went well for them, didn't it...?

Marti on today's defeat

I'm in the "he's staying" camp.
I think people are adding two plus two together and making five when they talk about him leaving.
He's kept his cards pretty close to his chest on a number of issues over this last year or so. I think he genuinely cares deeply about the club, and this comes across in that same interview.
In his mind, I suspect he's thinking "I've proved myself under some tough circumstances, now its time for me to leverage from that in my discussions with the CEO to get what I really want/need."
