| Forum Reply | Record Employment in the UK great news at 10:45 22 Jan 2019
The definition of employment the ONS uses is 'one hour or more of paid work per week (as an employee or self-employed), those who had a job that they were temporarily away from, those on government-supported training and employment programmes, and those doing unpaid family work.' While the numbers may seem deceptively exciting, the number of 0 hour contracts and 'gig economy' workers on unsustainably low pay in this country means the statistics don't show the quality of the employment, which can be just as, if not more important. |
| Forum Reply | Mascot prices -£480!...Really!? at 13:39 1 Jan 2019
While yeah the prices are high, and I certainly wouldn't pay them, bare these things in mind before you get worked up... The Swansea mascot package is actually a lot more comprehensive than the others.. ie you're getting a lot more for your money than the others. 4 hospitality seats (50 per game ish) a full kit, a meal for 4 and the experience... and Matt Lloyd the BBC Journalist who wrote that piece is a Cardiff fan, and in reality I have to say the Cardiff package of 255 for two rubbish seats and a rushed parade past the players is actually a lot less of an experience. |
| Forum Thread | Swansea FC and The Big Issue? at 10:59 23 Oct 2017
We've all been down Oxford street, Wind street or along the King sway and seen the homelessness in the city. As an 'end of the line' city on the GWR mainline and the only main destination in West wales, we do get quite a lot of non-locals coming to the area in search of more opportunities. Southampton as a port city see a lot of similar problems, and the Saints have launched a match day version of the big issue. https://www.bigissue.com/news/big-issue-southampton-fc-launch-special-edition-ma I like to buy the magazine as often as I can, but in all honesty I never actually read it, as I'm sure many others don't. If the Swans were to look to emulate the partnership of the Saints I'm sure many more people around the city would be a lot more willing and interested in purchasing one, helping those who are trying their best to make an honest living in pretty awful situations |

| Forum Thread | Favourite stadium you've been to? ( After the Liberty of course!!) at 13:37 20 Feb 2017
On the eve (plus a week) of the young swans taking on Hertha's youth team at the liberty, what's your favourite ground you've ever been to? You can probably guess from the introduction I'm going to say Hertha Berlin's Olympastadion. Built for the 1936 Olympics in Nazi Germany the stadium is a two tiered bowl with one stand cut out behind the goal for an obelisk style monument. A living museum of a stadium. Also absolutely love Charlton's The Valley! With clear patches such as the corners, which have been added later, ungracefully. The one solitary tiny 'shed' of a stand for the away supporters makes it feel like the whole massive stadium is surrounding you. As intimidating of a stadium you'll see as an away fan, even if the fans themselves are busy munching on kale and egg tarts and not in the least bit scary! What ground do you think deserves an honourable mention? [Post edited 20 Feb 2017 13:42]

| Forum Thread | Player Attitudes. at 16:38 23 Jan 2017
Over the last week, namely the Payet saga, we've seen players either getting their heads turned by enticing offers, or letting their club down massively in order to force a move. Prior to Saturday, we were bottom of the table, have players such as Llorente and Siggurdsson, who we all have to admit don't belong in such a position. Very clear links to clubs like chelsea and Everton etc. It would have been so easy, lucrative and to some degree better for their careers to jump ship. These, and other squad members from Routledge ( I know he gets stick, but he's never deliberately poor) to Cork, pulled out an insane performance on Saturday, regardless of anything else. To have squad players like siggy and Llorente show us loyalty until the end of the season to try and save us, when a move away is something so many in other clubs would jump at in this situation, is probably THE thing that will save us if we are above 18th come the end of match week 38. If they are still at the club come the 1st Feb, these specifically two players that should be given the freedom of the city. We are very lucky, and they are likely the difference between ourselves and the other teams in our position |
