I enjoyed the game, it was a bit , more cut and thrust. The Players gave all they could BUT, how are our fans that delusional?
How is this better than the Liverpool game? Man U were awful, they spurned chances that even our strikers would have struggled to miss. Its not for no reason that they were in the bottom 6 at the start of play but they still carved us apart on several occasions.
Yes its great to see saints MOTM Kalemdeen destroying their LB, but still no end product , no shots on target , and poor decision making when he has the opportunity.
People are so keen to blame RM for fitness but unfortunately the issue is just the fact that the game is no longer 11 v 11. With teams being able to make 5 tactical subs Man U could literally swap out 5 players we couldn't dream of affording with another 5 we couldn't dream of affording . Fernandez was visibly tired. His pace for 70 mins was relentless, We just don't have anyone of his quality to replace him.
In short we failed to score against the worst Man U team in decades, as opposed to being robbed against the champions elect. Our players are trying their hearts out but its a thankless almost impossible task.
I don't think we will finish with less than 11 we are very unlucky to only be on 6. I'm positive for the future because our owner is willing to spend what he can within PRS and he has recognised that we need a director of football that knows football. Our recruitment needs to be vastly improved but there are things to look forward to next season. Most of all I'm positive because despite what ive said fans enjoyed the game and thata what's important. Juric hasnt brought the defensive solidity that we are more keen to get the ball into the box, even if it means some very hopeful passes and losing the ball more. We may even lose by more than 5 goals by the end of the season but at least people are happier that we are not "tippy tappy" and we get to see Talll Paul being big in the box and Sulimanas frightening pace..... surely one of them has to score ssoner or later!!!

I don't believe that this is a reaction to them not sacking Martin early enough. I think its reaction to woeful recruitment, specifically a policy of buying very good young players at above market rate and neglecting more proven players.
Since Juric has come in I haven't seen a massive improvement . Some people are happier with the style of football but results are results and in my book the Brenford game was the worst performance of the season so far. Lets face it IF (and its a big if) Saints were midtable people may still be frustrated about the style of play but would have accepted it.
If we had spent 24m and the equivalent wages on 1 half decent striker rather than on 2 hopefuls all that possession might well have had an end product. The more disturbing truth is that maybe RM was actually getting the best out of what was available.
The result of the recruitment strategy is a team bloated with average players and the odd decent signing. Of this seasons new players only Fernandez and Ramsdale (who we were forced into) have made a positive improvement. Effectively we are playing a team that did well to achieve promotion through the playoffs .
This is the boards failure, and the reason they are moving on. Hopefully we can get someone in with a connection to the club that values what the people of Southampton think of them and wont skip ship as soon as a more lucrative or glamourous opportunity arises. |

I'm afraid that we are likely to find out that he is just not good enough. As with Tall Paul , Leslie Ugochukwu , Sulemana and Maxwell Cornet . Add to that he is a very defensive LB suited to a back 4 and we don't have an equivalent RB and you get to why he wasn't selected.
Juric also favours a 5 at the back with advanced "wing backs" but I've personally had enough of 3 CBs, Our midfield is too lightweight to support that system and the full backs we have are not good enough defensively for the premier league. I would prefer to see u play a 4, but this isnt going to happen as we dont have a decent defensive RB at this level honestly who plays RB in a flat back 4? Sugawara? He is terrible even with a covering defender. Maybe KWP but then you are not playing to his strengths either only other option is Bree |

The argument that we will be relegated regardless doesn't really hold much water for me. If that was the thinking why did we sack RM at the cost of £12m when he had proven he could get us out of the championship?
Its not all about the balance sheet, its about reputation as well. I'd say keep him unless we get an offer above what you would expect . For me his six months is probably worth 5m or so. No one is paying £15m. |

Anyone that doesn't want to be here needs to leave. We don't have a great deal of choice KWP has been a model pro in my view he has already completed one season in the championship I cant see him wanting another. A number need to be moved on. As good as Tall Paul has been in providing a target and some physicality (especially against Liverpool) he is not the striker we crave. 0 goals in 232minutes. Ogachuckwu has been given chances but has only woken up around transfer time, ABK did the opposite of KWP and sulked when a move did not materialise , I find it difficult to understand people clamouring for him to play when we have Harwood Bellis, Nathan wood, and Jan all playing well and no doubt making fewer errors now their game is simplified.
We need a permanent signing in midfield and a athletic physical striker at the very least. Then we need to sort out the mess that is our full backs. KWP is our best and maybe only PL quality full back . Im honestly in the dark with charly taylor but at 31 its a risk either way |

Spray painting my focus cherry red wont turn it into a Porsche. Its looking increasing logical that we appoint someone like Hjulmand on a short term deal . Its going to be a very long season. Performances will not improve without Martin. He wasn't an idiot he just didn't have the options (player wise) to play any differently . It was really frustrating to watch but the difference was marked when we played Lallana and Onuacho. But they were both injured as despite having quality its clear that neither can cope with the physical demands of the PL. Fans are understandably frustrated that we don't get it forward earlier of cross the ball more often. But to who? Arma looked like a child next to the spurs defence. |

We have a weaker team that finished bottom when the Ralf Out brigade forced the owners hand . Ralf was a decent manager who had managed to survive on scraps. Russel Martin has managed to maintain morale despite us have a maximum of 5 premiership quality players when everyone is fit. We don't even have that now , we now go into a cup tie with the youth manager in charge of a leaderless an over achieving championship side against the champions elect. Better start the Christmas drinking early because this is going to be messy |

He isn't a former player of great renowned he doesn't have the contacts that Kompany has. There is no reward for him playing how he does. The truth is that we probably got promoted a year earlier than was expected, the 3 year deal was a clause in his contract. We didn't manage to shift a load of players so we couldn't get the player we wanted . The whole thing is a mess not just RM. I genuinely don't think we have the players to play a more direct game, I mean Adam Armstrong and Cameron Archer? Tall Paul plays 1 decent game and is injured. The recruitment policy and the rigid wage structure is what is killing the club we have reverted to the Rupert Low days of buying average money for 3 average midfielders none of which are good enough for he same outlay as one decent player.
The whole thing is a mess, maybe if they actually conspired more we would be in a better place |

I find it perplexing that some believe that RM has asked McCarthy to roll the ball out to a player that has 3 around him.
Yes he wants to play out from the back but there were other options and it was an awful decision. Keeper makes two unforced errors someone has to take responsibility. I though Lumley did OK.
The disallowed goal followed by Skys suggestion that Downes shouldn't have been on the pitch is just par for the course now. Same as penalties against Liverpool not being given and them suggesting Lallana's yellow should have been a red.
Survival is looking like mission impossible , but everyone needs to stick together now , some of our players are not good enough but they are OUR players. Together we stand divided we fall.
UTS and RMs revolution . What a goal against Liverpool and what a goals that was disallowed against Brighton More to come hopefully |
