**BURNLEY MATCH THREAD**
at 16:34 26 Apr 2025

Today was the culmination of being poor at home. Only 7 wins out of 23 and our worst performance at Loftus Road saved for the final game which is one way to stop a pitch invasion at the final whistle. Burnley have walked all over us in their last two visits and this is what happens with parachute money with one team and a can't be bothered attitude of a team with no money. I see Celtic won by the same score at Dundee Utd where Celtic have the money and the rest of the league are skint like us.

Ever since money infested the game we have had plenty of home pastings, 5-0 to Swansea, 6-0 to Newcastle, 5-1 and 4-1 to Middlesbrough and no doubt others I have wiped from my memory. Today Burnley and our display made us look like an amateur club in comparison.

We only won twice in the last 12 and both were away wins and it has been away wins that has kept us up in the last three seasons as we fritter away too many points at home. Failing to win 16 home games in a season is not conducive to this club ever moving forward and I expect the same next season and for years to come as we are stuck in a doom loop of austerity and poor recruitment.

Mowbray, he got tin tac.
at 21:56 21 Apr 2025

I think the owners brought him in with the expectation of reaching the play offs. They have lost five out of 6 games since playing us at just the wrong time. Losing today to Derby confirmed they won't make the play offs so target not met so Mowbray shown the door immediately.

Marti, stick or twist?
at 21:39 21 Apr 2025

Personally, I never heard of Marti until he arrived. So it is possible that if he was replaced we could again employ someone I have never heard of. Therefore your question is hard to answer as there are managers around the globe I am not aware exist.

I fully expect Luton to stay up now. They have Coventry at home who lost at Plymouth today and last game West Brom away with no manager and nothing to play for.

I don't think we should be overly surprised. One thing we have been consistent with is when we play well away and win, we often follow it up at home with a lousy display dropping points. Just winning two on the bounce is difficult and has been for some time.

We had a golden spell to get out of the bottom 3 but we have reverted to type. We won at Hull then lost at home to Sheffield Wed, beat Blackburn then lose to Coventry, win at Oxford then draw with Bristol and now win at Preston and lose to Swansea at home. This makes it difficult to pull away from the bottom and to instill confidence. I know I keep harping on about it but if big money is not spent on squads in this day and age then expect inconsistency.

Absolutely. No wins in first 9 home games of season and now it looks like it will be no wins in the last 6 home games of the season as I cannot see us scoring against Burnley's mean defence. Swansea complete the double of spoiling my Christmas and Easter as well.

Please can we finish above Watford

Want to finish above Watford and Norwich for a change and would be reward for taking 4 points off both.

On this day in 1976...
at 20:31 18 Apr 2025

People seem to forget that Norwich won 2-0 at Anfield a month or so earlier so they did us a favour too.

I think in the last 15 matches we got 27 points to Liverpool's 23 and we still didn't win the league. The fact is we left ourselves with too much to do after a disastrous period in December and January. We played 8 matches winning 2, drawing two and losing 4 away games on the bounce. 10 points were dropped so it meant we couldn't really afford any slip ups in the last 15 games.

We also have to remember Liverpool super sub David Fairclough coming on for the last 10 minutes and turning draws into wins in the run in. You can hate Norwich for beating us but what about Everton conceding a last minute winner by Fairclough or Man City letting Fairclough score twice in the last 3 minutes at Maine Road?

When we lost to Norwich we were hoping City would get something off Liverpool but, like Wolves, they conceded three in the last 20 minutes. I was baffled when our fans cheered City's last gasp winner against us to win the title that day. They did us no favours in the penultimate game of the 75-76 season so we should have got the draw and screwed them up like they did to us. Don't our fans know our history?

Wednesday have been on the beach for a few weeks so usually form vanishes when that happens. Look at Norwich today letting in 5 at home to Pompey who have been poor away.

Merely highlighting the fact how difficult we find it to win at home then away then at home then away. We have a tendency to follow up a good away win with a disappointing home display. Whilst we may be happy about today, it has still been a hard watch for much of the season.

Finding it hard to believe on today's evidence how Preston had been unbeaten at home since 2 November in the league. The sort of home record I would like to see from us. Typically for us, we concede just before half time and it was the scorer's first of the season. Of course...

Again, typical of us, we stop winning at home and start winning away. Oh well no doubt it will all be the same next season in the Championship.

Hope so as want to pay Swansea back for spoiling Christmas but typically they have won four on the bounce just when we are about to meet. Their winning penalty today was a joke as the ball was smashed into the Hull players face and the ref gave handball. Could be very costly for Hull.

Players that left the club and it hurt as a fan
at 14:02 18 Apr 2025

Looking through all the names listed I would have to agree with everyone how significant they all were at each time. Sadly it emphasises why we will never win a major trophy as we sell our assets. The big influx of money into football now means players are impatient to play in the Premiership so a talent like Eze won't be around for long. Sterling didn't even kick a ball for us before Liverpool took him for a bag of spanners.

Even if our academy produced another Maradona, word would get out and the vultures would be circling very quickly to snap him up. I cannot ever see us having a quality player
for 7 years again as happened with Stan Bowles.

Whether we like it or not, the only way we will keep hold of any talent and quality players for any period of time is to be in the Premiership. In many ways the Championship quality gets worse every year because anyone with ability is signed up by Premiership clubs. It used to be the case the big clubs would steal your best players but nowadays it is more likely to be Wolves, Bournemouth, Brighton, Fulham etc doing the raids who can offer themselves as established top flight clubs. I can't see us having quality unless we go up and stay there as right now we are lingering in this division with clubs like Preston and Bristol City.

So we have 0% chance of being relegated but can still be relegated according to this image. That clears that up...

Relaxed Rangers make their point against City – Report

The record at Ashton Gate is why I am perplexed why we can't beat them at home. Bristol are not strong on the road so it seems criminal we can't beat them at home.

at 14:37 14 Apr 2025

Interesting to see some online comments from Bristol fans that the game was dour. Presumably a reflection that they didn't create enough in a game they thought they would win.

One sentence in the report that caught my eye was about Bristol being unbeaten in their last 7 visits which is now 8. That in itself shows why we won't trouble the promotion picture anytime soon. We might have an excuse not beating teams with parachute money but like us, Bristol don't have that money but we can't win at home against them.

The home form has to be really good to challenge at the top and we have been sadly lacking for years. We have now gone four home games without a win so I hope we win the next one as don't want to go into the start of next season with 6 home games winless. Look at our start to this season unable to win at home. Don't want that again!

Sports personality of the year sorted. Brilliant drama where Rory won it, lost it, won it, lost it and finally got over the line. He deserved it but Rose came from nowhere to almost snatch it.

are we safe, yes or no....
at 17:49 12 Apr 2025

Last week I reckoned we were safe because of the incompetence of others and we have seen that today. Cardiff scoring an own goal near the end to lose and Luton losing to off form 10 man Blackburn at home. I cannot see the bottom 3 catching us now with 4 games left.

As I also thought, Sunderland have switched off for the play offs so here is our chance to finally beat them in the last game which we haven't done since they came up from league 1.

I think they count shots blocked by defenders as on or off target by the balls trajectory as well as goals and shots saved.

Rather frustrating they were in good form last month when we played them. Now the Blades seemed to have bottled it with 3 losses in 8 days so had we played them now we might have won. Mind you we haven't won any of our last 4 home games so looks like that nonsense is recurring.
