paddy's day
at 22:59 15 Mar 2026

Yeah I was reading your list of where it comes in terms of significance and was very surprised. I’d be with Brian Wilson on this one. I would argue that Paddy’s day is bigger than Xmas day, but that could be just personal bias. But deffo bigger than the others on your list. Once we hit the New Year, Paddy’s day becomes the focus up here.

‘St Patrick’s day in not a huge event in Ireland, by the way. It is much bigger among Irish immigrants.
Not often I disagree with you Brian, but you are totally wrong on this observation. Okay, so we may not chuck green dye into nearest river, but paddy’s day is celebrated in every corner of our little country. I come from a tiny village of 400 people extended over a rural area of 8 miles and we are about to embark on our 38th parade, interrupted only by Covid. I think St Patrick’s day is massively important in Ireland, both economically and culturally.
In answer to the OP’s question, it’s just more craic is all. Plus we don’t mess about by moving it to the nearest weekend to celebrate it. The 17th is the 17th and that’s it.

Of far greater concern is why was James allowed the freedom of Filbert street or whatever its called nowadays. Nothing learned in that respect from Southampton/SU/Middlesbrough/Brum. Luckily Leicester are much pooer than the above 4 and couldn't capitalise further on our generosity

Bennie scores from similar distance v Hull and it's a 'worldie' Walsh concedes a similar goal and it's shit goalkeeping. We are ever so slightly subjective in our opinions

Back to our favourite spot. Closed the gap on Coventry, Middlesbrough. Ipswich, Milwall.

Ha, That will test his ‘Oirishness’ for sure. Was it Terry Mancini that became impatient during Aran na bhFiann and asked a new team mate when are they going to play ‘our one’?

Revenge for Rice and Grealish! Actually good be a good addition. Smallbone is our most creative mid-fielder so more possibilities there than on the right wing

‘Steamy Windows’ would be more apt now with all the hot air coming from the ‘Head of Performance’ et al.

Feeling tomorrow could be 0-0. We have a habit of pulling something out of the hat when we seem to be completely on the ropes. Lots of praise for Warburton recently, but he was on the brink after a horror show v Swansea (not a once-off phenomenon) at the turn of the year. We had Norwich next who were flying, with the obnoxious Cantwell pulling the strings in midfield. We were damn unlucky to only draw one all and Warburton never looked back for the rest of the season. I think we’ll do something like that either v Brum or Leicester - it always seems that just when the fans are at complete breaking point, that they reel us back in with an unexpected performance. Or lose both games 5-0 is also an option.

We have many things to be concerned about, but relegation is not one of them. Put yourself in the position of every team from Portsmouth down. They would all give their right arm to have 47 points. I think we’ll pick up 9 more which will make it an incremental improvement on last season.

WLS - Edwards might be moved into QPR’s midfield

In Field’s case it would not have been counter-productive either - he is the consummate pro. Hopefully, next season, with JS gone, he will resume as a regular beside Madsen and provide some experience, balance and protection in mid-field

He may try to go for another 0-0 to break the sequence of defeats. Given that most of our fit players are defenders, it might be the best tactic - my get people of Walsh’s back a bit too

This Season Almost A Replica of The McLaren Season
at 16:11 9 Mar 2026

The stark difference for me is that in the immediate aftermath of the Coventry game, JS came out all guns blazing, saying we will “see a different team and game next week” (not an exact quote but you get my gist). Not seeing that after Southampton or yesterday . Looks like he has been properly QPR’d, with all the fight knocked out of him.

This Season Almost A Replica of The McLaren Season
at 13:46 9 Mar 2026

Broadly, this season mirrors McClaren’s, but also Cifuentes last season. The ‘middle’ bit seems to be when we are at our best. It takes us a while to get going and then we tail off again towards the end. The other similarity with McClaren is that our best players were flogged game after game until they picked up a serious injury, I still think, (fear) something major will happen to Kone. The problem is the later it happens, the more likely it will be to impact the beginning of next season too.
The difference with McClaren’s season and this, is that we were in real danger of getting relegated that season, such was our free-fall, whereas that is not a concern this year.
The only plus side to all our injuries is that fringe players like Morgan, Bennie and Kolli are getting important Championship experience, which should stand them in good stead in the long run.
One final point, without wishing to re-hash too much, but allowing Field to leave on loan was absolutely criminal. Even if he ‘wanted to go’ he is not the sort of pro to throw a strop if he didn’t get his way. It was not even a case of ‘hindsight is wonderful’. Yes Madsen was still fit, but we already had a long injury list by the end of January
