" best thing that can happen now is relegation to League 1 so the financial shackles are released completely and they can spend as much as they like building a squad."
Am I right in thinking that's true while we remained in League 1 but if promoted time spent in L1 would then count towards the Championship 3 year cycle.
But every team does it now. The only difference is that we have not realised the rest of the team midfield and attack need to be involved. Fannying around only works when there are players further up the field in space to accept the ball from defence. We do not have such players. Hence even playing it long would not make much difference.
Of course he had a say in the players. Never bought the idea that a “head coach” simply works with the players he is given. He will be sacked albeit with a nice pay off if the team don’t perform. Your point re the new contract is evidence enough.
The positive step is that whatever the term it is an increase on their current contract and hence an increase in the time where we can get compensation should they get poached.
I an not ignoring anything and accept what you say that is the current rule instigated by FIFA. However prior to Bosman we could have had this conversation. FIFA had a rule that even players out of contract were not free to move which the court quite rightly overturned. So there is precedent to suggest that just because FIFA impose a restriction said restriction cannot be tested. All I am saying is that if somebody bothered to try would such a rule pass court scrutiny. I have my doubts but then justice and common sense have never been good bed fellows
I don’t see the point of the rule if it is actually the case. If it did occur it would only be a free transfer and clearly the “owning” club not wanting the player. In which case why not cancel the contract on the last day of the window
I would be interested if this were tested in court. I take your point that any club can employ a player at any time but can only play them the following window but that surely only applies to somebody currently employed however not being able to play an unemployed player surely can be considered a barrier to employing such a player and hence a restraint of trade.
I don’t think anybody is splitting hairs at least not me. If Cannon was not available to sign how did we manage to get through the registration process and sign him. Surely we would have been docked points playing an unregistered player.
There seems to be agreement on this board that there has been a change in the club since Cifuentes has taken over as head coach from Ainsworth. If he has had no input in who is sold or brought who was behind the change.
