Spot on. He didn't seem to know whether to stick, twist or bust. I can't imagine in his wildest wet dreams he ever imagined to be playing in a team coming back from 2-nil down to Liverpool with 13 minutes to go and scoring the winner! |

I'm a big fan of the 10 metre rule in rugby and would love to see it applied in football as the norm (wasn't it trialled once in a league in England?). Think it would be a great tool to stamp out dissent/petulance/tantrums!
Players would soon realise the need to keep their traps shut about refereeing decisions then. |

Absolutely. I just don't understand why this sort of behaviour is tolerated. It's also become the norm at kids/school level of football because they've seen high profile players on TV doing it.
I'm not saying it would be easy to curb but once players know they will be penalised every time for back-chatting/ swearing at officials then it would soon stop and make the game a more pleasurable and faster (time wasted spent arguing) one to watch. |

Beautiful. See my point.
How good would it be to see the likes of Rooney etc. subjected to that style of refereeing in that culture and not back chatting the ref and throwing dummies out of the pram which lets not forget, wastes time as well.
They just need to know that the decision the ref makes is final and get on with it.

A situation where 2 players squared up to each other by putting their heads close up to each others faces.No head butt motion took place. Bradley Johnson over reacts which is unsporting behaviour in my opinion and should have been cautioned with a yellow card. Barton is also guilty of unsporting behaviour and should have been given a yellow at the most.
Barton wasn't guilty of serious foul play or violent conduct on this occasion.
He was perhaps only guilty of being naive and stupid for giving the referee an opportunity to apply an interpretation of the games rules, which, given his reputation runs the risk of an over reaction from opposing players and misinterpretation from referees as happened in this incident. |

Doesn't this thread perfectly illustrate just how difficult it is to be a referee.Even with the benefit of numerous camera angles and replays, people still have different opinions about whether both tackles are good or dangerous.
Referees are such easy targets for managers, players and supporters to blame them for their teams' misfortune. Yet they are human and only have a split second to make a decision without the benefit of camera replays like the rest of us are privy to.
I'm sick to the back teeth of how it has become the norm in the modern game to blame the ref for a team's defeat. What about the players on the pitch who misplace passes, choose the wrong option etc on the pitch during the course of a game-we don't hear much criticism from managers blaming their players-they seem to find it easier to blame the referee.
I appreciate that referees make howlers in matches and it is frustrating for managers and supporters alike , but they are just trying to interpret the rules of the game in a fair and honest way at pitch level in real time with no replays to watch. THEY ARE HUMAN.
If you want every decision to be correct then you will have to have every play monitored continuously to show if wrong decisions have been made and then play to be stopped and continue with a free kick, throw-in etc.
I used to be a qualified referee with Surrey FA and I can assure you it is one of the most difficult jobs to do. I think that managers and players should have to take a referees course to appreciate just how difficult the job is and to know what the rules are. How often do you see players appealing for a handball when it hasn't been deliberate?
I think the FA should try and emulate the culture of refereeing seen in Rugby Union. How refreshing it would be to see players accept the referees decision even if they don't agree with it and just get on with the bloody game. |

Curbishly consolidated Charlton in the Premiership before joining the Hammers where he kept them up by winning seven games from their last nine matches and then consolidating them in the prem before he left. He doesn't cut a pathetic figure to me. |

Although the decision to sack Warnock has surprised and saddened me, Fernandes has the clubs interest at heart and therefore I respect the decision he has made. Whether it turns out to be the right one only time will tell. |
