Got to be honest I’ve noticed that too.

Ok so the metric now is - is he better than Sinclair Armstrong and Lyndon Dykes?

Of course he is.

But he was still poor today. Not sure why it’s such an outrageous thing to say. He actually missed the header and scored with his shoulder so he was quite lucky it went in. He’s generally been poor in the air. His heading needs serious work.

He can still be a good player for us. Whether he can be very good is yet to be established.

I really hope he can. The player I saw play vs Wrexham looked very exciting.

Is this the name facts about Richard Kone game?

None of them change the fact he was poor today and struggled.

Yeah, apart from when he scored with his shoulder, he was poor.

Kolli, Madsen and Dunne looked the part.

Hayden put in lots of good tackles.

Showed he has what it takes again today, I felt. Really impressive from a 20 year old. Super sharp touch, great one touch link play and he's so strong.

Interesting to see which players looked comfortable at that level generally.

Sadly Kone looked out of his depth all game.

Thought Dunne did well but then go horribly exposed by Summerville for their second.

For me Madsen looks like a Premership class centre mid. Stood out all game as our Rolls Royce player.

Smyth was the big surprise IMO. Really held his own. Was pretty magnificent.

Yeah we bought him for £850K

Frankly he’s hit a wall this season. He simply cannot move the ball forward quickly and decisively in transitions and turn overs. It turns promising openings into nothing.

Huge limitation in his game.

Anything from £3 million up we should take.

I don’t personally feel he’s ever showed ‘great promise’. I felt he was ok, as in, not a disaster, and pretty positionally astute.

Really the cause for excitement was he was young and new and from Bayern Munich.

And most importantly we were struggling at the back at the time and needed a new hope.

But to me his physique is a huge problem. He’s neither quick nor strong. He’s not commanding in any way.

And certainly if he is to progress, which I doubt he can, then he certainly needs to playing week in and week out, not sitting on the bench as back up.

A few people mentioning Morrison.

He’s not got it. Far too slight, weak in the air, slow and accident prone. Not to mention injury prone.

Signing Edwards signals the end of his time here. Which is the right call.

He’s a great player, a potential to be a Rolls Royce player.

But £4.5 million is BIG MONEY for a club like ours for a CB when we’ve got a decent set as it is and several big prospects in the position too.

I’d feel it’s kinda… dunno… an over reach perhaps? We need to spend £4.5 million getting a proper keeper and two full backs.

But still, what I think is good sense aside, it’s very exciting.

Fair enough mate but your responses earlier irritated me re ‘we’re watching a different player’ etc like I didn’t know what I was talking about re passing - and then when a slew of both stats and opinions backed me up you started questioning the foundation of stats. Which felt a bit desperate. So yeah, felt you were a bit dismissive and then pedantic about the evidence to the contrary.

But agree it’s just an opinion. That’s what it’s all about anyway.

On the wider point. We desperately need a quality goalkeeper and a proper left back we own and can rely on. The two squad priorities by a country mile for me.

So you’re disregarding stats now based on your ‘eyes’

My ‘eyes’ don’t agree. Nor do the stats. Nor do his performances this season by consensus.

But it’s clearly a hill you’re gonna die on so let’s leave it there.

Yeah I think his passing skills are decent actually. Ok when he’s having an erratic game or the team isn’t gelling it can go down hill. But fundamentally he’s a proficient passer.

For instance, was Dunne a better passer than Mbengue. I’d say not. Can’t think of many RBs we’ve had in recent years who are better passer than Mbengue. So not sure what you’re expecting.

As for crossing. Northern is right they can be totally wild but he also has crosses whip and intent in his locker. Opener vs Leicester being a good example

Couldn’t agree less.

His deficiencies are much more of an issue at centre back. Fatal even. He can’t be allowed to play there again.

He’s also, contrary to what you say, a decent player on the ball and passes and carries well for this level.

We have much bigger issues to solve than Mbengue at RB

Left back for a start.

Yep agree since he’s moved to RB he’s been good. Occasionally very good. We lacked pace and aggression and ability to carry the ball at full back for a long time.

One thing. He gets over excited if he beats a man and tends to over elaborate and get into a jam and get tackled. If someone could teach him to offload sooner, he could really be something.

Agree again. Has a good football brain. Passes the ball forward quickly and with crisp intent.

Yes he makes mistake but he’s a teenager. He’s needs game time and to bulk up.

Will be a good player.

A game is played over the full 90. That’s how it works. You’re focussing on the negatives amongst what was a very scrappy game overall.

But the important point is he had the quality and star potential to emphatically make his mark on the game twice.

I also don’t agree he was dreadful, there was lots of lovely first time link play that is often sorely lacking at this level and it’s incredibly potent and creative because it unlocks the space in the final third.

I have to also be honest and say sometimes you have to be able to read and understand touch and game intelligence in a young player, even if they’re having a bad game. Innate skills.

It’s the eye for a player and I’m saying, as ill received as it will be, that quite a few people on here don’t have it.

It was the same with Eze in his first season. There were a lot of doubters.

This. Lots of clever quick link play.

And two great goals.

But apparently he was awful.

BUMP.

To those of you supporting a talented prospect from our youth team that continually delivers in front of goal whenever he’s given a chance. Well done.

To those of you who needlessly dug out a young player because you literally wouldn’t know talent when it smacks you in the face. Gazza etc. not so well done.

Kolli proving you Stainrod (in particular) and several others on here wrong is HUGELY SATISFYING.

The kid has got that special ability to score and create goals and intelligently link play.

It’s frankly an outrage Stephan has refused to trust him and Morgan more.

But mainly back to Stainrod. Doesn’t know half as much as he thinks he does. Glad it’s been exposed. Again.
