No. But for some reason I'm convinced he's going to be a star. |

Smyth's effectiveness has decreased since he's been needed on the left. He's not good enough to cut inside at this level despite doing so well for LO. So it just becomes a culdesac. On the right he can get past his man on the outside. It did very much feel like the ref had taken against him yesterday, though. Going to ground so frequently, and those couple of off the ball elbows over the last couple years will make officials less sympathetic. [Post edited 1 Feb 19:11]

We have a huge squad. I wonder if we'll have any outs. Nardi would seem the most likely. Hopefully not Field. Maybe Adamson. Maybe a loan for a Wilkie, Pearman, or Alemayehu. We haven't signed an australian or a little winger/10 for a few days, so maybe get another one of those in. Certainly not a specialist rightback. |

We got money for him!!!!!!??!! Some moments of fun from Michi, mainly off the pitch. First goal was a good excuse to say ‘deft’. Wish him the best of luck. |

Back then the qpr bond offered a premium above what you could get elsewhere which reflected relative risk. This time around it doesn’t really. [Post edited 20 Jan 9:23]

I wonder if part of what made Adamson and Esq look good was that they weren’t inverted? |

Yes but you have to compare with what interest rates you could get elsewhere. This is only 1.25 percentage points above the Bank of England rate now. You can get 4.5% from a safe as houses easy access FCSC scheme bank account where you’re not locked in for years, or over 5% from a blue chip company like GSK versus 5% from a loss making company at the whim of a single owner where you’re locked in for years. You expect a premium for a riskier investment with less flexibility that isn’t protected by the government. Last time round it was about four percentage points above the BoE rate, reflecting the risk. From an investor perspective the qpr cash is trivial. How much polyester do you need? The 25% promotion bonus is attractive. But it’s not as good a deal compared to last time and where else you could put your money. [Post edited 20 Jan 9:02]

Interest rate much less attractive this time around than last time... |

Keep Sam. Right sort. Available. Decent. Sell Varane. Offload Frey |

His other goal was really cracking. Ollie Watkins style. Was it at Millwall? |

I don't think he'll want to change shape or centreback pairing. So I think he'll go for... Walsh Morgan Dunne Cook RND Hayden Madsen Bennie Kone Smyth Kolli Field will come on for RND on 60. Ronnie for Cook on 70. But no real attacking change possible unless Frey can be brought out of deepfreeze. Pearman would've got on the bench but is away I believe, and Sutton's gone back out? Other options he'll consider...Adamson at RB and Morgan at 10 once Kolli's knackered. Esquerdinha to come on to the wing once Bennie's not made any impact or to give Smyth a rest if the game is settled oneway or another. Brunson or Trujillo on the bench? Astonishing to be so short up top when we have Chair, Saito, Poku, Dembele, Vale, Burrell... |
 | Forum Reply | Sell Jon Varane ? at 09:48 14 Jan 2026
Sell! We’re getting a premium for his name and his physique and those moments when he looks dominant sweeping up. We’re no better with him playing than we would be with Field or Hayden in the role. So we don’t even need to buy a replacement. Spend some of the profit on a left back. |
