Maybe its simply a case of the managers / "Head Coaches" realising that they have taken this club as far as they can given the restrictions we have to operate under? Marti is clearly compromising his principles - he wants to be a high press / high energy team that plays on the front foot that can play out from the back. This squad does not have the legs for that, nor the basic, ball playing midfielders needed and certainly does not have strikers to lead that press. SO he reverts to a more direct style implementing Dunne and Frey, or when they are not available, a feast on second balls as Kolli / Celar / Dembele can't win a head or hold the ball up meaningfully. No legs, so its a low block if we ever get 1-0 up - no evidence of going for the second he continually preaches. Whether he is out of the loop or not, the reality is that the best this club can hope for is a basic Championship team, with a little bit of Chair flair. Will he continue to compromise, or does he want out? He's ambitious, so I think that there is a lot in believing that he wants out. He has not seen any real improvement in the squad or their capabilities to do what he wants his team to do. So, he's proven he has pragmatism, but can't perform the absolute miracle it would take to get us to the next level. Like Beale, he knows that now, so why on earth would he hang around even if he did sign a new contract last year? |

Yeah, thanks for the reminder. I could have been very close to my brother going up and down the country with him supporting Palace seeing them become nearly what we were in the 80s. But I made my choice because he was a bit of a bully at 9 years old to 5 year old me. I was going to be better than him and forge my own path even at that early age; no way would I be the same as him in any way. We even married sisters don't you know - me the older one; him the younger one. They got together first and me and the wife were really reluctant to get together just in case we split up to make it awkward for them. Little did we know we would be here 24 years married years later whilst they got divorced 22 years ago 'cos Big Bro played away. So, despite the fact that the red and blue poo are going all that, I still have no regrets over my choice; it would have been awkward spending time with him when he was going through the divorce. Its just shite that our record sale is to them and they really are (albeit a midtable) established part of the cash league, safe in the knowledge that every season there will be three teams promoted worse than them every season. Such is life. |

My choice. Dad played Rugby for Saracens, flirted with Millwall, but hated the trouble there, so they weren't for me. Brother is 4 years older and Palace and there was no way I was ever following him. When I got to 5 I had to choose. Originally I said Liverpool, but my brother scoffed and said you always go for the best, so I went for the team in second. They were a London club, so I chose and stuck with them. After seeing them not score for my first 4 games, I still stayed in and that set the tone for the lat twenty years. At least between 11 and 22 years old we were more than decent, but since then it has been awful. Still, like you I have indoctrinated my lad in this shite. HE had no choice, but seeing how happy he was when that third went in against Oxford, there are times when he enjoys it. Mostly, he knows we are 'kin awful though... [Post edited 27 Apr 18:40]

Maybe it is all Nourry and Hoos or maybe, just maybe Marti is pulling the strings because he knows we cannot compete at this level with our budget and doesn't want go spend this part of his career dragging a bunch of footballing Neanderthals to get to 50 points. Like Beale, maybe the reality of how fkd the club is shows them that NO-ONE can possibly succeed here and they want out before they go down with a sinking ship? Maybe he really is St Marti fighting the good fight against evil Lee and evil Christian, or maybe he has had enough and wants out. There is as much chance that he leaked this as Nourry. Either way, here we fckn go again. The one bad choice I have made in my life is this poxy club. |

Agree with the OP. No excuse for that level of effort at all. No pride, no fight, no desire to do better. Only Varane came out with any sort of credit from that s**tshow yesterday. Although I am not allowed to have a view on some players according to a few on this board, I can't help but comment on a few of them. Kolli offered nothing and showed a fair few signs of petulance out there. Adel was allowed that as he had the talent. Seen very little from Rayan that backs up the positive ness from some in and around the club. Been given his chance in the last two games and is way, way, way off the level. Still needs a season long loan down the Pyramid in my view. Dembele continues to disappoint. So weak, so easy to defend against whilst offering nothing defensively. Promising start this season, but since his return from injury, his performance level is pathetic. Madsen. There might be a player in there, but he needs to be deeper as he cannot (or won't) press and is another one who is simply unaware on what is going round him. Paal - disinterested all season. Waste of space. Clearly a talented player, but he never looked like he WANTED to be here. Ashby - done alright the last few games, but there must be better and cheaper out there. Dunne. Carried us in the early part of the season and whilst we will miss him (we will), he has been phoning it in somewhat the last few games. My brother is a Palace fan. We are the feeder club that gave them Eze. He is having soooooo much fun following his team. I am having very little following mine. Depressing. |

Utterly pathetic. New low for this season. Marti's team talk must have been, "Bend over, lube up". Yes, they're players are way ahead of ours, but no excuse for not competing. Team selection odd. Kolli, Madsen and Dembele may be great technicians, but they are just not up to this level. We have no presence up top and there are no options for a forward pass. All they want to do is get into their shape rather than moving the ball. Embarrassing. |

This threaad is almost universally Marti good Christian evil. Not a lot of middle ground. For the sake of balance and re Dave's line below (I don't think Marti is innocent in all this), maybe, just maybe, he's had enough and wants out without losing face? The fact that Clive says he and others have no access yet Dave MC has found a way to get access might suggest Marti is paving his own way out. He wouldn't be the first 🐺 in 🐏 clothing, would he? I have no clue other than something is up and I have no clue whose fault that is... |

No-one is listening Mart... IT IS THE 28th APRIL THIS YEAR - church stuff - they do not like it to be so close to Easter.... |

Thing is, I could have written that from the sources on here, so its not news. The direct quotes have been reported everywhere else and you can spin it that way or you can spin it another way. It may be right; it may be wrong, but the WLS crew have hardly been positive about Nourry from Day One have they? All of this of course makes it really, really easy for Marti to walk away and still look like the good guy even if he isn't. Once this type of article makes it to the MSM, something usually happens although I am sure I read in that 'kin rag that we were going to get stuck with a points deduction over the Faurlin saga... If he is going, then let him announce it before Saturday so that we can say good bye. It'd also be lovely if we knew which of the OOC players were going too... But that requires communication with the fans so I doubt that'll happen... |

Not a single shot. Rank awful. Today was ALWAYS Frey from the start and Kolli to stretch them when they get tired. Everyone poor today, but no shots in a half against this lot is as bad as it's been this season. Our attacking threat is zero today. Frey for Kolli,Chair and Morgan for the Danes. |

Unless you re-sign the out of contract players (which might be a bad idea - see below), of course it is going to be a re-start; you can't lose that number of key players without an overhaul. Paal - looks like he doesn't want to be here. Was awful early season; genuinely looked like he was going through the motions. Improved since the turn of the year and we may well miss him, but I'm not worried as I think he flatters to deceive. Lovely touch, lovely technique, but can't defend 1 on 1s, can't beat a man and gets 1 of about 20 decent crosses in. Dunne - will be an utterly massive miss. Less of a liability out on the right and absolutely the heartbeat of the team. HOWEVER if he doesn't want to be here and wants to chase money or contract length, we have no choice, so he has to go. Edwards- no chance - clearly Soton's best player by a country mile and will be their PotS next year. Fox - steady back up, bags of Champ experience, but you'd think it's worth "gambling" by replacing him with someone younger and cheaper. Cook - been awesome for us and before his latest injury, another year seemed a no brainer. But surely his form since that injury and the recent setback should send some warning bells? An appropriate wage for another year maybe. No doubt he will be a massive miss of he does go though... Anderson - lovely goal yesterday and has shown glimpses in the last few games, but if we want to get better, sadly he HAS to be moved on. Frey - THE biggest conundrum. A squad player only asked to do 15 minutes most weeks, maybe, but your no. 1 striker expected to complete most of the time on most of your games? Unfortunately, even though he worked his ass off last summer, he has simply not been on the pitch often enough. Someone less ineffective, but available for 35-40 games is a must. Shame as I love the bloke... Saito - simple Q of whether we can afford him. If he gets a sensible offer and takes it, happy days, but, like Dunne if he is more about money than loyalty oh well... Colback - same with Cook.He is fantastic and has shown all his class since he came back from injury and has been fairly disciplined. We need to replace his experience somewhere and need to do it cheaply. If we can't, maybe one more season, but I'd hope not to be signing anyone over 36... So, reasons for loads of them to HAVE to go, which means an overhaul... |

Dickie had to make up for his abysmal period of phoning performances earlier in that season. Playing for a BC contract; he wasn't doing it for us. |
 | Forum Reply | Jimmy Dunne Will he stay or will he go at 14:00 17 Apr 2025
If as most of us suspect Steve Cook is going to be offered a 1 year deal on big wages, I'd rather spend that money on Jimmy. I know wages apparently are not the thing with Jimmy, its the length of contract, but I do not trust the board to replace him with anyone nearly as effective in this team. I am not dumb enough to come out with a "pay him whatever he wants", but he has done enough this season to prove himself a really valuable member of the squad and I am fairly sure that he'd be a shoo-in for PotS if he had committed himself to the club long term. Yes, he is limited (but who isn't), but I doubt that he would let us down, so offer him a bit more than most, but don't break the budget... I think he will go though as his head will be turned by bigger offers... |

I thought that he was inconsistent throughout and certainly Bristol C players had to work harder to get booked. Their no. 3 (Pring?) committed 5-6 fouls, a few of them quite cynical and petulant yet he wasn't even spoken to. Colback's one was a yellow (thanks, JV) though. In the first half for one of our corners, Pring is literally facing Jimmy Dunne with both hands grabbing his shirt at the chest and clearly holding him back. The fact that Jimmy won the header should not change the fact that is a foul and its in the penalty area, but that seems to be fair game these days - anywhere else on the pitch, fine, but there, clearly not. The foul by Dickie on Saito in the pen area was sooooo Dickie-esque - done for pace, trying to get back, late, clumsy - a pen. Just because Saito had off loaded the ball before there was contact matters not, there was contact and he was clearly taken down. ...and to show he wasn't bias, the Saito chance came from Min Hyeok's blatant push on their full back, with the ref looking directly at it. Useless, like most of them still are... |

Think he's been great since he came back from injury. He is a quality player at this level and just adds class; he does everything so smoothly and rarely loses the ball. Also won the in midfield to set Dembele off for the third - faultless. But, unless he will sign for peanuts, I doubt he'll bit available for too many games next season and, as we know availability is the main ability we've been missing for the last few seasons... |

Easy to forget when you are a QPR fan, but I suspect Oxford's start was a lot to do with nerves. They had a great win on Saturday, but this was a game they would have targeted because they are good at home and we are crap away. They did not look fluid at all until that spell when Varane put us under pressure with the silly pass back to Nardi and Madsen did his flick. After they scored and bought the young lad on, their tails were up and they had a renewed energy and upped the press. We really, really needed Yang's goal to kill them off... |
