Will Saints Be Cast Adrift At The Bottom Before They Kick A Ball This Weekend
at 19:44 23 Nov 2024

On the bright side, at least our recent form isn't as bad as Man City's. They've lost their last 5 games. The possession game really is sh!t unless you have a player like Rodri, who acts like a quarter back, spraying passes forwards from the halfway line to keep the opposition's penalty area under siege and then stops them whenever they try to counterattack. And there really is only one Rodri.

Is Anyone Positive About The Liverpool Game
at 19:40 23 Nov 2024

The Dell could be a hostile place for away teams to play at. David Beckham said it was the ground he hated playing at the most because the crowd were so close to the pitch and really gave him some stick.

Our home record against Liverpool used to be good too, at least until the mid-90s when the terraces were replaced by seats and the capacity was reduced.

Is Anyone Positive About The Liverpool Game?

"Does anyone think we will win?"

This sounds like the sort of rallying call the Earl of Cardigan would have made before leading the Light Brigade into a valley surrounded by Russian artillery.

Liverpool Cup Tickets
at 10:33 20 Nov 2024

I think what it tells you is that we have been loyally turning up in numbers to watch one of the worst performing teams in the entire history of the Premier League, with both home and away league games continuing to sell out, but that witnessing a midweek cup defeat by Liverpool shortly after we see them defeat us in a league game may, understandably, be a step too far for some. Under such circumstances, I really wouldn't expect the game to be nearly sold out 4 weeks in advance anywhere.

Does Shea Charles Prove That Russell Martin's Player Judgement is Flawed

Anyway, we may not have to worry about him much longer as there are a lot of reports today that he's a January transfer target for Arsenal.

Coventry have a tough choice now between RvN and Carsley. That could have been us.

He became the 40th player to win an England cap as a Saints player. He played very well too. It's a shame Lee Carsley has to go. I'm not sure that Tuchel will be an improvement.

Coventry have picked the perfect time to recruit a new manager. They've got Ruud van Nistelrooy, Lee Carsley etc to choose from now. In January and even more so in the summer, there would be far too much competition for managers of that calibre.

We needed to move fast. As expected, he's gone for the first job available, which, could have been Southampton:

"Ruud van Nistelrooy has applied for the Coventry City job - less than a week after his Manchester United exit."

Yes, I agree. It was a very good performance against a good Greek side. You have to feel a bit sorry for Lee Carsley. If not for that experiment, trying to fit all of our best attacking players into the home game vs Greece, he'd be the permanent England manager now.

Is the suggested Liverpool Cup boycott having an effect ?
at 11:28 14 Nov 2024

I'm going, but I can understand why many regulars won't bother with this one. Frankly, everyone is demoralised by the manager and team's performance - just about the worst so far by any team in the entire history of the Premier League.

Season ticket holders, who form the majority of regulars, are already committed to going to the Liverpool league game, which is not long before the League Cup game against the same opposition, possibly with a few reserves thrown in. How many defeats by Liverpool does anyone want to watch?

I also went to that semi-final you keep going on about, and that came at a real lowpoint too. We'd only won 1 of our 21 league games leading up to that game ( and that was against WBA). We went to the semi-final with our players and fans knowing we were going to lose to Chelsea again. We'd already seen them beat us twice that season, with the second of those defeats coming days before the semi-final, and it was only a question of how many goals we were going to lose by the third time. No wonder some fans couldn't face more misery.

Premier League supercomputer predicts.....
at 14:14 12 Nov 2024

I agree. I'd expect Man United to maintain their recent upturn in form. How high Villa finish depends on their European run. If Villa make the final 16 of the Champions League, they'll focus on Europe.

Premier League supercomputer predicts.....
at 13:52 12 Nov 2024

"Brighton, who have started superbly under Fabian Hurzeler, will finish fifth......Newcastle and Tottenham are predicted to take the final European spots, in sixth and seventh respectively, with Bournemouth just missing out."

"In the relegation zone, Southampton are expected to be cut adrift, finishing rock bottom on a measly 13 points (only two more than the record low total). Above them are fellow newly-promoted side Ipswich on a slightly less paltry 22 points. And rounding off the relegated sides are Wolves, missing out on goal difference to Leicester, with both on 27 points."

Better than Derby! Right now, many of us might think that's slightly overoptimisitic.

Ordinarily no, but right now, he probably would. He'll be itching to prove himself managing another Premier League club and he might just jump into the first one available. Obviously, in the long-term he wants to manage Man United but that's not going to happen for a few years and managing another PL club now will help him fulfill that ambition.

We need to strike while the iron is hot because almost any other PL vacancy that crops up later will be more attractive than this one.

I hope we don't dither until it's too late and then finally replace Martin with another mediocre Championship manager, which is what Ankersen's record so far suggests is more likely to happen.
