Wow, a great hotel :D
This is a very panoramic area, but not so close to the port.
By feet, you should be 15 minutes to reach the Lungomare (Via Partenope), the waterfront, with many good places to go, for example Penny Black Pub - probably the best Irish Pub in Naples - or Fresco and Sorbillo Lievito a Mare as pizzerias.
You are closer to the San Pasquale area (the so called "Baretti", along Via San Pasquale), a fashionable district, full of cocktail bars and places to eat. Near San Pasquale there's a street named "Via Bausan", full of ethnic restaurants, Mexican, French, Brazilian, Greek food and on and on.
You can search on google map the streets I mentioned to you, they're all quite close to your hotel.
Moving by feet is good to go, but maybe arduous to come back, because your hotel is on a higher level, being Napoli a city full of dis-levels.
I suggest you to visit the historical center and eat in the best pizzerias of the city, which are in this area. |

I also have to add that I didn't come in Swansea, last Thursday, so I haven't experienced the atmosphere of your ground. But I am quite sure that small realities still preserve some authenticity, and your fans are warmer that Arsenal and Chelsea's; Liverpool's ground, for example, was nice, but I have to say that after the match I had to run away from Liverpool's hooligans, who stationed around the stadium with glass bottles and belts in their hands...true story!
My observation is generically about Premier League, nowadays the best championship in the world, but maybe too much oriented to economical interests. A show for tourists, and that's not my favorite football model.
Obviously I can't stand italian ultras culture, a real index of italian's culture decadence; but we're not the black part and you're not the white part: if I had to take my wife and my children to the stadium, I surely would choice a premier's match; but if I am with my friend and a want to have fun, watching my team's match in a passionate atmosphere, I'd still prefer my San Paolo, although it's old and crappy ;)
P.S. I hope that the english I remember is enough to be understood |

What do you mean? Maybe you don't know, but this historical quotation has a positive sense, it means "After you've seen Naples you've seen everything and you can die"...other interpretations are simply an ironic provocation, due to the fact that Naples is, today, the biggest city of the poorest italian area, so it is also less secure. But it's not Beirut, trust me :D |

Talking about "different cultures" and then implicitly say that one is fair and the other one is silly doesn't make so much sense, to me.
As an Italian, I envy many good things of UK's culture, including the sport's culture.
But I consider a bitter arrogant the approach that some of you has about this, like yours is absolutely the best culture.
I've been at Anfield Road, Stamford Bridge and Emirates stadium, and not everything seemed attracting to me.
A huge part of the audience is made of tourists, in these years I think that Premier League has lost the most part of its authenticity. I remember Chelsea and Arsenal forum arriving at the pitch one ore two minutes before the match, while in Naples you can see the blanchers completely full one hour before the match.
At the Emirates and the Stamford Bridge i believe I was in a theatre, everybody quite, set down; no doubt it's something very civil to me, but I found it also very boring, as I found boring watching a football match in the Camp Nou and the Bernabeu.
I think the best atmosphere I experienced was certainly the one in Munich, at the Allianz: a perfect mix between the UK's order and organization and italian enthusiasm.
Anyway, I suggest you to watch some top match played at the San Paolo, in Naples, and then you'll tell me if it's a cold audience. |

That was my goal, giving some advice for those who want to have a nice holiday thanks to this football match.
I've already given some suggestion to one of your mates about the best areas to stay, the way to explore the city by public transportation and the precautions to take to avoid any risk.
That was not a challenge among hard men who want to show who's the strongest or who is the best, neither a spot to convince you to come, because it's your right not to like a city or a country.
As it was said, the best advise is to behave like a normal tourist and not a hooligan, avoiding being alone in late hours or in bad areas. About everything else, I think you'll only have a good time visiting a very different and interesting city, and if in Swansea people will be hospitable, then it could be a sport party here in Naples. |

As I said in italian, I can't see any logic in starting an argument like children do about what's better in our country or in yours and which ladies are the best ones.
I think it all started with good purposes, civil Napoli supporters that welcome civil Swansea supporters and try to be helpful for the potential traveling.
I told it to the italian user and I repeat it to the Swansea ones: this discussion is becoming stupid, saying like a child that a city is shit and its hinabitants are in-civil is an uncivil thing itself. [Post edited 17 Dec 2013 17:03]

Scusami, ma il senso di questo post? Hai idea di cosa risponderebbero tanti utenti se più tifosi dello Swansea venissero sui nostri forum? Noi abbiamo i nostri dementi e loro i loro, appiccicarsi come bambini su quale sia la cucina più buona o la città con più storia non fa altro che alimentare antipatie e stereotipi stupidi.
Qui sopra siamo ospiti, credo sia più intelligente cercare di dare il benvenuto ai tifosi intelligenti che si vogliono fare un giro a Napoli piuttosto che prendersi a parole con i dementi che dicono male a chiunque sia straniero e diverso da loro. It's a shame for us Naples fans to read about the bad reputation the worst part of our supporters gave us.
I've been in the UK, in London and in Liverpool, and, despite of the very scary experience of getting out from Anfield Road, I still can tell you that your country has less problems of civility, order and respect of laws than we have.
But I repeat what I've already said, the world is full of beautiful places which are less safe and less civil than your lucky country; the choice is double: avoid to visit 3/4 of the world for the fear of some risk, or understand how to reduce the risks, learning how to explore metropolis that obviously aren't golden as probably your town is.
If you are terrified from these reports you heard, just watch the match on TV, but I still think that you lose a great experience and an unique city. [Post edited 16 Dec 2013 21:17]

Man, you are totally free to avoid this journey, if you are scared or don't like the city.
I've been in UK and loved it, it's a very civil, clean and organized country.
But I'd also like to visit countries like Argentina, Brazil, Turkey or whatever, it's a matter of taste, if you are disgusted with everything that is not at the UK's standards, you'll lose many interesting and beautiful places.
We are only trying to give some advise to the people who'd like to visit our city, we are not trying to convince anyone who do not want to come in Italy, so if you think that Napoli is the hell on earth, no-one is going to force you to come ;) |

I understand your words, because the "ultras" and their violence is a real shame for those all the honest and friendly people that live in Naples. The worst part of the city is also the noisiest.
As my experience, I can tell you that I've been to the Emiretes, the Allianz and the Stamford Bridge, and, as the other supporters were civil, they didn't experience any terrifying event in Naples; when we hosted Liverpool and Marsiglia, we had some problems, as we had when we went to these two cities.
I remind myself with my father (who is 60) repairing to a fastfood, which protected us through its shutters from the attacks of the Liverpool hooligans.
I am disgusted with the "ultras" world, but I have to say that they rarely attack foreign supporters without some rivalry or preceding. |

It's quite true, surely Maradona gave us notoriety and, above all, trophies.
But before that, we've been at a good level, reaching some second and third placements, together with some national cup.
It's in the 90's and in the early 00's that Napoli had its decadence, failing after a decade of up and down through the first and second division of Serie A. |

Hi friends, I'm a Naples supporter, happy to come back to UK.
About your potential travel to Naples, I might give you some suggestion.
Naples city centre is a good place to stay, it's the biggest UNESCO historical centre in Europe so it's also very interesting to visit; should be a safe area, you only should pay attention in the late evening, but nothing far different from how you should do in every city with over 1 million hinabitants.
The more you pay, the safer and more comfortable you will, it's obvious.
If you have money to spend, 4 o 5 stars hotel in via Partenope are almost a Paradise, in front of the sea, the Castel dell'Ovo, with many pubs and pizzerias and 5 minutes walking from the most famous square in town, Piazza Plebiscito.
About the ground, the Linea 2 of the metro stops at "Piazzale Tecchio", which is essentially in front of the San Paolo stadium.
I don't think any "ultras/hooligan" problem will be before and during the match, I think you have civil supporters and the idiots that call themselves "ultrà " normally create rivalry against other idiots like them.
For your staying, you must eat a pizza, Naples is where pizza was born and here there are certainly the best pizzas in the world. Try also the expresso coffee, the "babbà ", the "pastiera" and others specialities that made our cooking one of the bests in the world.
You also have, half a hour or a hour far, Ercolano, Pompei, Sorrento, the Amalfi coast (with Positano), Capri, Ischia and Procida.
Have a good time, mates :D |
