| News Comment | The Swansea City win percentage rate that Roberto Martinez wins hands down at 22:37:52
Swansea were inconsistent under Cooper, style-wise. They played very nicely against Norwich and then looked witless against some lesser teams. They were not consistently defensive. But Cooper made good use of the resources at his disposal, as he is doing now at Notts Forest, who are playing attacking football. We have to persevere with Martin but he has not yet shown he can make the best use of the players at his disposal. He is too concerned to squeeze them into a predetermined pattern. Set a style by all means but adapt the execution to what you've got. Naughton is not a centre half. Latibeaudiere is not a left wing-back. It's not clear that Fisher is a goalkeeper. |
| News Comment | The realistic response to sacking Swansea City manager Russell Martin at 17:38:36
It's nuts to even think of sacking the manager. You've got to give him a couple of seasons to show what he can do.. He comes over as a bit dogmatic and fonder of player he knows with a League one pedigree than ones who have proven competence in the Championship. But no-one's perfect and he plays a style the fans like so give him a chance.. Swansea's squad is not good enough for promotion and it wasn't last year. But Cooper knew how to work with what he had. At least he has an owner now who will back him in the market. Martin hasn't got that and will have to learn some of Cooper's pragmatism to cut his suit to suit his cloth.. |
| News Comment | Morgan Whittaker told he isn’t in Russell Martin’s long term Swansea City plans at 19:14:09
Managers have to have players they fancy. Sometimes it's mysterious to fans who don't know the inside story of training and relationships. I think we do need a goalie, but a better one than young Fisher. If people can argue about who's the better NO.1, there's no point. We need a clear upgrade or persevere to improve what we've got. |
| News Comment | Swansea City & Russel Martin ‘Statement of intent’ at 19:06:19
I'm in the camp that thinks you should only buy players who are better than the ones you have got, We're happy to bring in Bristol City rejects (three at the last count) and we've stocked up with midfielders on frees or from lower divisions. It is unclear whether they are significantly better than Grimes, Fulton or Dhanda but they close the door on youngsters like Ollie Cooper. Better business up front; Piroe looks tidy and let's hope Obafemi clicks |
| News Comment | Connor Roberts, please don’t be the new Richard Duffy at 18:53:31
No chance. CR is different class. Let's not have sour grapes. He took his chance and it's not his fault the club can't negotiate. They should have got £5 million even in this market. Cash went from Forest to Villa for £10 million a couple of seasons ago and he's no better than Connor. |
| News Comment | Ashley Williams gets the Steve Cooper situation so very wrong at 18:08:10
Oh calm down. Williams is entitled to his view. It's perfectly reasonable for Cooper to consider his options. Potter didn't take long to work out that Swansea's owners have either no ambition or no money. They were brought in supposedly to provide the finance required to keep Swans in the Prem. They've sold £50 million worth of player in the last couple of years and spent £1 million. Cooper should be playing hard to get to see if he can extract a transfer budget out of them. We need a striker but above all we need an attacking, creative midfielder. |
| News Comment | France v Wales : International Friendly tonight in Nice : Benzema returns ! at 23:11:49
Good show by the team considering. Good organisation in defence and the odd good move in attack. They look a lot better than Swansea! France were superior though and with Wales down to 10 men the result was inevitable. This team can beat Switzerland and Turkey and get to the quarters. Need some luck or improvement to go further. |
| News Comment | When Steve Cooper wasn’t flavour of the month at Swansea City, short memory jogger ! at 23:06:14
Some performances have been really dire and that has influenced the fans. But they over-estimate the squad, It's fairly thin with honest journeymen but very few quality players. They also seem to think too that Cooper will be easy to replace. But who wants to manage a club that sells £50 million's worth of players and spends £1 million? The owners want to take out not put in so getting a better manager than Cooper will be very difficult. Truth is he's still learning. The best outcome would be if he said to the owners he's ready to commit if they are. He needs £20 million to improve the squad plus the proceeds of any sales. Unfortunately I think they bought the club under false pretences. I don't think they've got any spare money and Cooper will go. |
