Saints Linked With Gaston Ramirez Thursday, 16th Aug 2012 23:07
Saints are being linked in the Italian press with Bologna's Uruguayan winger Gaston Ramirez in a deal that would smash the Saints transfer record set only a few months ago.
Saints are reportably about to pay Serie A club Bologna 20 million euros or thereabouts to secure the services of 21 year old Uruguayan International winger Gaston Ramirez, At current rates of exchange this would value the player at around £16.5 million.
Ramirez joined Bologna from Penarol in 2010 for around about 2.5 million euros and has since made nearly 60 appearances for the club scoring 12 goals, his form at Bologna brought him to the attention of the Uruguay national side and since his first cap two years ago he has won a further eight, also representing his country at the olympics in London this summer, scoring in their 2-1 win over UAE.
Now strong rumours in Italy say that he is about to join Saints, although that signing may come a little late for him to play at manchester City on Saturday.

Dodgy translation but here goes - The Southampton and Gaston Ramirez were neighbors. Closer and closer. As explained Gianluca Di Marzio from your site, the British company wants to make a major investment. And with Bologna, there is agreement on a valuation of nearly 20 million, including bonuses. Figures important, that can push the closure. The parties are closer, and you can dramatically close to Ramirez in the coming hours.

Well I suppose increasing our firepower instead of shoring up our defence, will help us to win, by scoring more goals than them! We could be in for a season of outrageous scorelines! The Daily Scar informs us that the Buttner deal is back on. No I don't buy it! I followed a link from http://www.newsnow.co.uk/h/Sport/Football/Premier+League/Southampton

Is it April fools day? Sky Sports have just gone with the story and the player has confirmed the interest in the Italian papers. Wow! I take back what I said before about Saints not being able to compete with bigger clubs for top rated foreign signings! If this goes through then it will knock away those doubters who think Saints are not serious about staying in the premiership.

Gaston Ramirez’s move to Southampton is on the verge of collapse. “The offer has not been considered suitable. Bologna cannot be forced to follow the rules of players and agents.†The 21-year-old Uruguayan told Sky Sport Italia this morning that “there are just a few details missing with Bologna for my transfer to the Saints.†However, Bologna President Albano Guaraldi has come out for the second time this evening to clarify the increasingly bizarre affair.

Exciting but somewhat crazy signing if it goes through - certainly in the high risk category and has smashed the wage structure.. For those who havent seen him play he's a tall well balanced link man, a play maker.. He looks very much like Enzo Francescoli as a player. I would expect he'll play in the hole. The strange thing is that we have put Lallana in that position all pre season. Kind of smacks of a lack of planning.. I still think we will go for a winger (i.e. Phillips) even if we complete this deal.. No idea why we havent signed a C Back as we are very weak there with no real cover and C backs need time to build partnerships.

Blogs 31 bloggersKnees-up Mother Brown #19 by wessex_exile February, and the U’s enter the most pivotal month of the season. Six games in just four weeks, with four of them against sides also in the bottom six. By March we should be either well clear of danger, or even deeper in the sh*t. With Danny Cowley’s U’s still unbeaten, and looking stronger game on game, I’m sure it’ll be the former, but first we have to do our bit to consign Steve ‘Sour Grapes’ Cotterill’s FGR back to non-league. After our shambolic 5-0 defeat at New Lawn, nothing would give me greater pleasure, even if it meant losing one of my closest awaydays in the process.
