An Idiots Guide To Raising Money!!!

Home > Story Index >Money Raising Ideas

Without knowing the breakdown I can only assume that we, the long-suffering fans, have again shown our loyalty in the desperate need for our clubs league survival. Today I hope to encourage debate on how further funds can be raised from other sources. It will of course require fan volunteers to give time instead of money. A couple of hours could make the difference

One off hits

Weather permitting, Car Washes in high profile areas without taking income from local businesses (no need to build more barriers with the local community). An example could be to approach Tesco next to the Quadrant to offer to wash cars while the owners shop. 50 cars @£2 = £100

We have started on the run in to Christmas. Parking will be at a premium in the city centre at weekends. Why don't the Trust organise the use of the club car park and maybe the area inside the ground behind the North Bank as supervised parking on non-match days. E.g. 50 cars between the 2 locations for a morning and an afternoon session at £2 could bring in £200. Parking is always at owners risk and by using volunteers it's all profit

Both these type of initiatives could be advertised in the Evening Post on the weekly Trust page.

The Trust is not Just for Christmas

But let's take advantage.

How many members will be attending Christmas get togethers from work. Going for a meal? People having a good time and after a few drinks are more likely to give £1 if asked. 10 people giving £1 is of course £10, but multiply that by the number of works parties and the sum can mount.

How about people who are organising these night outs. How about asking the owners that if your party spend over a certain figure that they donate a small amount to the Trust. Again it doesn't need to be a large amount but will again accumulate.

Not going out but arranging a club disco etc. If hiring the music ask if part of the fee can go to the Trust.

These are only thoughts, there have to be more. If you don't ask you don't get.

One for the club. Shoppers are looking for Christmas presents, they will not make a special journey to the club shop. Catch the passing trade, we need a presence in the main shopping areas.

Lastly a P.R. initiative.

To the good people of Swansea that we are trying to entice back to the Vetch, the Trust will be seen as always asking for money. Why not try high profile events that may not bring in much money apart from 'bucket collections'. If it achieves bringing 10 people back to the vetch that's another £100 per game for the club

Tidying up 'eye sores' to the benefit of the community. The council can supply the black bags and removal of the collected rubbish.

Again there can be endless ideas, they could all be pulled together under the banner :

The Supporters Trust cares for the City of Swansea, please care for Swansea City.

To some these ideas may seem far-fetched, so was the thought of raising £20,000 in a month for loan players. These may not work, but the more ideas discussed the better.

Who knows, this time next year, the Trust could be paper millionaires.
