Trust Seem To Come Up Trumps In York

Home > Story Index >York Appear To Be Saved

It appears that York City look like being saved with the Supporter's trust now needing to find £60,000 to run the club for three weeks. The trust are confident that they have secured this funding and it appears that York City will be a fan controlled club very soon.
Steve Beck, Vice Chairman of the York supporters trust takes up the story "We have been in Administration since the 18th December, the Administrator was able to trade the club through to the 18th January (with help from the PFA), and from then on it has carried on trading as a result of the Trust donating £92K of its fund. This kept it going until the 15th February then York's current Chairman (John Batchelor) put £10K of his own money in (?) to keep it going another week. This now brings us to where we are now. The Supporters Trust has the only bid on the table; the administrator is keen to see this bid through to completion via a CVA route. This period will take up to three weeks. Therefore in order to proceed with our bid we/others have to provide the funding (£60K) for the club to continue trading until the sale of the business/assets takes place.

"We have secured funding from donators/businesses and from our own funds for the consideration to be paid upon completion and with funding to be left for on going trading. We have of course prepared Cashflow forecasts and Business plans which are acceptable to the administrator these show we can carry the club forward post admin, with some reduction in costs and increasing income streams.

"We will still need of course the approval of the FL, P.F.A and FA to our proposal, along with the co-operation and support of the Players, Management and Staff at YCFC.

"I said in a piece in the SD newsletter around a year ago, when yes we were in crisis then as well, that I did not know what the future held for MY club, but with a strong voice from the Trust it may have a brighter future. We never set out (as I don't think anyone does) with the intention of trying to take over a Football Club. All we ever wanted was to be heard and listened to and to have some involvement and influence in the decision making process.

"But if this is the route we have to take then we firmly believe that a Supporters Trust owned Club, providing a Local solution to a Local problem is the way forward. We may not have all the answers; we may not even know all the questions. We will no doubt make mistakes and may need to bring in assistance from others. But it will be OURS (the fans) - we will be inclusive, open and honest and act at all times with integrity. We will give it our best efforts."

Personally I think this is a huge well done to York City Supporter's Trust for raising the money to keep their club afloat and keep another City with a league football club.
