Swansea Defend Their 100% Record At The Kassam

Swans v Oxford - Match Preview

Only a Scunthorpe equaliser on Saturday prevented the home side also going into this game with a maximum nine points and they are, rightly so, one of the favourites for promotion this year. It should prove to be an interesting encounter with Oxford having conceded just 2 goals in their three games and the free-scoring Swans notching up 11.

With Lee Trundle on 5 goals and Steve Basham for Oxford on 4 we also have a battle of two of the Nationwide League's leading scorers adding to the excitement. A strong Swansea following of around 2,000 is expected to make the August Bank Holiday trip to Oxford which will add to the atmosphere inside the stadium greatly. With tickets priced at a rather expensive £17.50 on the day or £14.50 for those that bought in advance it's nice gate receipts for the home side and testament to the way that Swansea fans are reacting to their start of the season.

Swansea will of course be without skipper Roberto Martinez who left the field on Friday against Boston after a heavy challenge and faces 4-6 weeks on the sidelines with ligament damage. Andy Robinson seems likely to be handed his first Swans start after impressing as a substitute and scoring against Boston on Friday. Izzy Iriekpen is also available for selection after signing a three month contract at the Vetch before the weekend although he may have to make do with a place on the bench for this fixture.

Referee for the encounter is Martin Atkinson, who is on his first season on the league list and has so far refereed the 0-0 draw between Macclesfield and Boston and Kidderminster's 2-0 away win at Darlington.

It certainly promises to be an exciting encounter at the Kassam and if Swansea head back down West tomorrow with anything in the bag then it will be a good result as far as we are concerned. There will not be too many away fixtures as tricky as this this season for us and one that will certainly test our championship credentials, even at this early stage of the season. With Trundle showing his magic again, I have a feeling that the Swans can sneak this one although I think we may see a scoring draw with the clubs sharing two goals.

One thing we can guarantee is that the Swans will generate some noise tomorrow at the Kassam and that alone could be worth a goal start. WHO ARE WE?
